NEVER PUT REGULAR GAS IN THE PRELUDE. PREMIUM ONLY AS IT SAYS RIGHT ON THE SPEEDOMETER. /end rant. I bet the code will be a knock sensor code, happened when he did the same thing. Please don't cheap out on your car.

Never put regular. It will hurt the engine in

Don't ever do it. You won't be lucky to get a free motor once this one craps out from detonation. The knock sensor basically adjusts ignition timing when it notices engine knock or pinging from detonation or pre ignition.

Re: CEL AFTER CLEANING EGR VALVE

Just fill the car up with the highest grade gasoline you have in the area - be it 92 or 93.

Then add some octane booster so you can get that all mixing together. Reset your CEL (just pull your positive battery terminal for a few minutes) and you'll be fine.

The knock sensor is giving you a CEL because of the high compression our cars have - it's not getting the proper fuel to air mixture so it's hurting the motor.

91 is the lowest you should ever put in your car. I try to get 93 whenever I find it.

Re: CEL AFTER CLEANING EGR VALVE

Putting regular is "No bueno"... Please read the cars manual before you start driving it today =)..You Are Lucky! Woman don"t come with a manual but your car does, get a good feel about what your car likes and wants.
