What do you call the piece that you plug into your headlights?

I'm sorry for making a thread just to ask a question, but I don't see a quick ask thread in the stickies.

What do you call the piece that you plug into your headlights? It's the black female outlet piece that you plug into the back of the headlights.

I'm not too car savvy, sorry if I sound like a dunce. My driver side headlight is out. I checked all the fuses and they all look good. I used a voltmeter to check the voltage on the socket and I'm not receiving any power for the driver side headlight outlet.

I guess the black female plug is part of the wiring harness; can I just buy the piece I'm looking for?

edit: I guess I can't edit the title to make it less vague. Can a mod change the title to "What do you call the black piece that you plug into the back of your headlights?"

It's part of the wiring harness, the most you can do is find a part out 'lude or one in a junk yard and have someone cut it off for you so you have enough to solder it on.

Re: What do you call the piece that you plug into your headlights?

It's basically just called a connector or plug. But I HIGHLY doubt that's your problem, since all it is is a plastic housing, with wires and leads on the end.
Your problem sounds like it's farther up, prolly the headlight relays located in your engine bay fusebox.

One of the wires could be damaged or broken too. I agree that the headlight bulb connector is probably not your problem but they're cheap so it's probably worth wiring in a new one anyways just incase.

Re: What do you call the piece that you plug into your headlights?

Usually they're called harness/pigtails look up nokya head light harness wire. You just need the connection type, 9006, 9005, h4 so on and so forth. Autozone usually has a couple lying around in the tail light/ lightbulb section. You can eBay the nokya harnesses.

Hope this helps

Re: What do you call the piece that you plug into your headlights?

Just making sure, and not trying to bash on you or anything, but did you check to see if you had a bad bulb? I'm asking cuz you mentioned that only driver's side light is out and you didn't mention anything about checkin out the bulb.

This would be an easy fix... obviously. I didnt want you going thru the headache of locating a used part somewhere when you only need a bulb found in Autozones everywhere.

Re: What do you call the piece that you plug into your headlights?

Check your headlight fluid, preludes are known to leak the headlight fluids!

On a serious note does the light work if you move the wire around? Does the high beam work?
