Re: Blown crankshaft seal..help!

is it the front seal or rear seal? if you gotta take the oil pan off I'd go ahead and throw some new bearings in for good measure if you got a lot of miles. You never know how hot the engine has been under another owners care.

Re: Blown crankshaft seal..help!

Well you should be in good shape. My cousin thought his leak was the front seal, turned out to be the balance shaft seal, your front seal might be ok. the balance shaft seal tends to pop out on its own without a retainer installed. This was a recall i think.

Re: Blown crankshaft seal..help!

yeah, all we did was use a screwdriver to push it back in. but after that you really should get the retainer, that or put a bunch if rtv on there to hold it in there.

Re: Blown crankshaft seal..help!

They're about the same difficulty, since it's basically doing the same exact thing. The MAIN thing is that a seal gets pressed in with even pressure all around so it doesn't get twisted/skewed.
While you have ALL that apart, I'd replace all the seals (crank, balancer shaft, and cam shaft), belts, tensioners, springs, and water pump.

Re: Blown crankshaft seal..help!

yeah, let us know which one went bad. that balance shaft seal is bad to just come out, could not be actually bad.
