JDMSiR Heater not changing modes

Hi there. I have a 1997 JDM SiR that, until yesterday, has never given me any issues with the heating system. However, now the heating/aircon seems to be stuck on the main dash vents. I cannot shift modes on the system. That is, even if I push the different mode buttons on the central touchscreen or use the aircon/demist buttons, the air is still only directed through the dash vents. I cannot get the air directed to the windscreen, floor, etc. Everything else within the system works fine.

Any ideas what this issue might be? Would it be as simple as a fuse?

not familiar with that system at all, but if its digital it could be the control module

Re: JDMSiR Heater not changing modes

We never got that system over here.. Although there are a few people over here that have installed it into their lude.. Hopefully they'll chime in..

Which climate control untitled do you have? The long one or the little one next to the center vent?

I'm having the same exact problem in my accord and it's not digital. If someone could help with this then it would be great.

^Not sure if it's the same as the 4th gen?? But there's a write up to fix the usdm climate control around here somewhere

It's the little one next to the centre vent. This controls the climate control, temperature, and defog options. The touchscreen console above the stereo controls the fan speed (still working) and which vents to direct the air through (not working... or at least, the touchscreen buttons work, but the vents do not change).

I'm pretty sure this is a problem with the motor? that shifts the vents rather than the touch screen as the manual defog/aircon buttons do not shift the air flow as they should either.

Will post photos of the unit soon.

Re: JDMSiR Heater not changing modes

Yeah it does sound like the motor..

They are different from the usdm ones so I don't really know how to help ya... I would check the fuse first..

But like I said.. There is some people on here with the jdm climate control.. Even though u have the super rare climate control.. the setup should be the same..

Re: JDMSiR Heater not changing modes

Damn!! That's nice! Wood grain

I didnt even know that the Hazard light and rear defrost buttons were moved there in the center..

Over here we have a button for the air to come out of the floor, upper vents or both at the same time.. You have that option with the touch screen right? Sounds like whatever sensor is used is loose or fried.. Either that or the fuse?

Here's what it looks like back there

Yeah, I like the black with the grain centre console. Add to that being manual, 4WS, and 200HP, she's a fun car!

Thanks for the photos. I'm going to have a look at the fuses to see if there is anything obvious there, but otherwise, it looks like it is going to be a job for the auto electrician.

Cheers for the help.

damn nice, this thread reiterates that the USDM honda's got hosed and watered down from all the goodies before coming to the states.

Re: JDMSiR Heater not changing modes

Pull the knee bolster (plastic Panel) out and switch modes, see if the mode control motor moves or not. If it doesnt then you need to see if it is getting power. Pull the harness plug off and use your DMM to test it. If you get at least 11 Volts then the motor is bad. Less than or no voltage then you need to coninue up the line until you find the fault.

Have you downloaded the repair guide at the top of this forum yet? It gives you specific instructions for testing the mode control motor.

Re: JDMSiR Heater not changing modes

Ik this doesn't apply to you since its touch screen but typically with the dial switches this problem is caused by a bad potentiometer (variable resistor) resulting in only one voltage to pass.

Re: JDMSiR Heater not changing modes

Problem fixed by auto-electrician. The motor that drives the plates directing the air had gone. This was replaced and the problem sorted.

Thanks to everyone for their input and helpful responses.

Re: JDMSiR Heater not changing modes

how much did u pay to get the job done by auto electrician? because this sounds like the same problem I am having. my vents are stuck on windshield and side vent. no matter what button i switch from face to feet, it is stuck on windhield and side vents. my middle vent will never turn on.

Same for me. I am trying to understand this site, as LilMissPrelude stated, there is supposed to be a guide you can download on this thread, but i can't seem to find it.
