How much would you pay for this 2001 SH

Lacey Auto Sales for Used and Preowned Cars and Trucks, Olympia, WA

Go to cars, scroll down and its the red SH.

And also what do you think about that $8499 price tag? Way too much?

Re: How much would you pay for this 2001 SH

Remember your buying a car from a dealer and not an individual so your going to have to pay a higher price for it.According to Kelly Blue Book for a Prelude with that mileage in excellent condition, its worth about $8065.2001 was the last year of production for the Prelude which means it has all of the upgrades and any earlier problems with the Prelude had been fixed by 2001. Lastly its a real, rare, red SH which makes it the most desirable of all the Preludes and worth the extra money because it has all the handling ,engine, body, wheels, interior and other desirable enhancements as standard equipment that you know work well together because they are all OEM enhancements so theirs no need for you to do much in the way of expensive iffy, hit and miss type mods.

link to Kelly Blue Book:

http://www.kbb.com/honda/prelude/200...mileage=132000

A real, red SH (Super Handling) Prelude:Don't be fooled by some who buy unique only to the SH model SH wings , SH body colored side trim and SH wheels to give a SH like appearance to their car

Re: How much would you pay for this 2001 SH

I bought a 97 SH used with only 60,000 miles on it in portland for 7grand 3 months ago. I would look around before paying that much for that car...but in the end the car is worth what someone is willing to pay for it

Re: How much would you pay for this 2001 SH

Yeah I'd say around 6k. Its a little on the high side as far as mileage goes. If it were under 100k I'd say 8k.

Didn't western prelude just make a thread about these posts? No offense to OP, just go over there with 2k, offer to buy it at 4K. No bank will give you a loan for a 10 year old car.

SH Driver: seriously, how do we know you don't have a rebadged prelude? We need to see your atts stat!

Westerns post was awesome, but it doesnt go into pricing at all. Thats kinda what NADA is for. KBB is for private sales, NADA is what car dealerships use to determine value between themselves and what they use to determine how much they will allow a trade in for. so look at NADA when buying from a stealership.

Also, I just got an 8,000 loan for an 00 prelude and I got it a 5%. So Banks and Credit Unions will grant loans for cars older than 10 years. Mileage is a huge thing though when buying an older car, the higher the mileage, the higher the interest rate.

2001 Honda Prelude Standard Equipment, Pricing and Information - NADAguides.com

Clean Retail is 7,725$ on it, which means that they priced it high to drop it only to that price to sell. Clean Trade in is 5,425$ which means they probably gave the previous owner about 4,500 or 5k to trade it in.

If you go in to your Bank and Credit union and ask for a preapproved loan to a certain amount, and then go to the dealership you can get a way better deal and not get ripped off.

Tell them you want it for 6,500 out the door and see what they say... Im sure they will counter higher, but stay strong and dont give them more than 7k... tell them you know that they got the car for probably 5k and 2k is enough profit for them.

Good luck

Oh,

Thats a sharp red prelude SHDRIVER... I like it and generally I dont like the Red preludes. in fact that was the last color I would have wanted when I bought mine a few weeks ago. And just because you are buying it from a dealer doesnt necessarily mean you will pay more, it just means they usually start asking for more right away! ;0) U got to talk them down further! :)

You are also in LA and he is in Washington... NADA and KBB ask for your zip code for a reason. Prices are different based on availability/area that you are in. edit: and you have a 99, he is looking at an 01; 10 years vs. 12 years old could be another reason, it seems small but can be a big difference in lending practices.

There are "supposedly" less Preludes up north and in colder areas so prices can get a bit higher if demand is high.

Its pretty interesting actually. There are a zillion SUVs all over Denver, LA may have 10x as many people but I can tell you from my recent trips to LA that there still arent as many SUVs in LA as Denver. Might cost a bit more to buy an SUV when there arent as many around. Same principle.

I just paid 7500 mine with 106k in Denver. and that was exactly what NADA says it was worth for my area.

Re: How much would you pay for this 2001 SH

I got a 99 base with 65k miles for 6k... the car runs strong, its a auto but the tranny is still strong on it... every car is treated differently, it just all depends on how the previous owner treated it.. if you dont feel sure get a trusted mechanic to check it out

but id pay no more than 7k

Re: How much would you pay for this 2001 SH

Car Dealers use a different book that cannot be bought through conventional methods. The prices are for 'WHOLESALE' purchases of cars. Trade ins and private purchases fall under this category. Also There is such a thing as a repair order or "RO" that adds to the cost of the car, so they can make a quick buck off the car. If the RO estimate is ridiculous, they wholesale the car in an auction to get the most back, and BS about the condition being better that it really is.

Back to the dealership: Seeing the car is 10 years old and on the lot, the RO was close to nothing. Dealership affiliated banks do not want a 10 year old car. If you can't make the payments, they repo your car, but it becomes unsellable since the bank wants to be made "whole" or close to it. Credit unions don't care, you've been paying membership, so they will buy anything for you, as long as you cover "x" of the cost plus taxes.
Dealerships loves Unions... as much as cash purchases.

Western preludes thread is about knowing how to buy a car. Yes there are no prices because there are underlying factors, like you said, for instance, availability, condition, owners, mechanicals, and distance from the seller. City cars are always more money than rural cars (cost of living the main reason). Then cars always depreciate without any other reason than the year of the model. A 8K car on a dealership isn't the same as the same car, 4.5K on the street with all the repair records. It's the users choice to decide which is better.

Buying from a dealer and negotiations are a part of the car buying experience, if you've never been taken once, you are you gonna learn?
