H23a swap???

Need a little help. I have a 1999 prelude that Im putting a new engine in. I bought an engine with a H23a bottom end and an H22 head. i have ran into some concerns and hopefully yall can help me.

To start off if you look near the bottom of the crankshaft of the H22 block youll find a sensor; im guessing the crank positioning sensor... anyways on the H23a theres no connection for that sensor to go. Should I continue with the swap not worrying about the sensor? Will there be a code thrown or will something worse happen? Pretty much whats the best thing to do here.

Next, i have no idea what its called but the pictures show two different mechanisms on the engine. on the H22 it looks hydraulic of some sort, on the H23a its a spring.... again, which one should i keep?

I made this post kinda fast so if you need for details to have a better picture plz ask. i have pictures too.

Re: H23a swap???

Is it the bluetop motor like the one in my pic? Does the block say H23A or H23A1?

Re: H23a swap???

H22 has an auto-tensioner, H23 a manual. I would definitely suggest sticking with the manual.

Re: H23a swap???

If you are going to use your old dizzy from the old motor I suggest that you swap over the oil pump cause the car will not start without that sensor. If you are going to OBD-1 keep it as it is..

Re: H23a swap???

cgbuter1 is correct. your gonna want to use as much h22a parts as u can. I.E. the h22a oil pump. As for the tensioner, manual is better from what i've heard. Ive never done the conversion before so i think im gonna use the auto tensioner. its a brand new one so i cant see replacing it yet. Hopefully i dont seal my fate. I'm sure other members can explain more about the differences. I'm in the middle of the same build as you Dippnsidways. There are some great threads about this kind of build. Just take ur time and do u research. Good luck.

Re: H23a swap???

The H23 has a manual tensioner. If I were you, I would take the manual because I have heard some bad stories with the H22 auto tensioners.
