JDM swap question

Hate on me all you want for this thread but I did my best to research and found nothing that answered my questions. My 99 5th gen has stacked up over 220,000 miles and I am planning on keeping it for as long as I can. The body and interior are pretty much in mint condition. The engine burns more oil than a two-stroke and it's getting very old having to constantly check up on the oil level. Instead of rebuilding the old engine I was thinking about a whole new swap. One of my friends who I am currently helping with his JDM OBDI h22a swap into a 92 si hatch purchased his from H Motors online and I was very impressed with the condition it was in. You could practically eat off of it. Anyway the point of this thread was to find out what will i have to modify in order to run a jdm h22a. I found a jdm 97-98http://www.hmotorsonline.com/shop/sc...age&item=30013 F20b from a sport wagon that caught my eye. I'd most likely be getting a long block only because the tranny is fine. I'm planning on dropping one in as soon as my buddy finishes up his project. Again, sorry if this has already been discussed, I just wanted to hear it from the experts.

Re: JDM swap question

Hmotors is a very reputable site to purchase from, ask any member on here and they will state the same. Personally though I would rather the H22A over the F20B. >>>Such as this longblock<<. Dish out the extra $150 for 16lbs/ft more torque!

Re: JDM swap question

I was mostly wondering which ECU I will use with a jdm swap. Also, will I be able to use my old wire harness? Physically getting the engine in the car is the easy part, the wiring and electrical are my two main concerns.

Re: JDM swap question

A p28 or p72 ecu would be what you're looking for. I'm not sure about the harness since you're in a 5th gen and I have a 4th.

Can anyone tell me if the wire harness will have to be modified?

Re: JDM swap question

I've never swapped in a JDM engine yet so I can't guarantee my answer, but I would have to say that your stock H22A4 harness should be fine for the other H22. I believe both engines utilize the same sensors which are in the same spots so no modification should be necessary.

Re: JDM swap question

I just did a jdm h22a swap into my 98 base and its been a nightmare. If you are not worried about passing smog it wont be horrible but if you are you will need to swap all the sensors, intake, distributer etc. mine went for a one week remove and replace job to a one month swap and rebuild of the new motor
It is possible but not easy

Can I use the sensors from the old engine? What was the biggest headache about the whole swap?

Re: JDM swap question

The wiring harness from the jdm motor did not match up to my cars wiring so thats why the whole harness and sensor had to be swapped. that was probably the biggest headache. PLus my inexperience played against me
