Last no start thread before I take her in.

Alright guys just like a lot of Lude owners I'm having a really bad intermittent starting issue. I have a 1998 Honda Prelude SH H22a4. The car has 116k miles on it. I've been having this problem since December and well I'm at wits end. After I manage to get the car started she runs just fine. Might be a little bit sluggish, but its ever so slight. She idles a little low, but nothing that seems terribly alarming.

<----Me trying to start my car.

I've replaced the Dizzy, Spark Plugs, Spark Plug Wires, Distributor Cap and Rotor.
I have an AEM fuel rail and fuel pressure regulator. I've tinkered with the fuel pressure itself and I'm most definite that's not the problem.
The issue is with the delivering of fuel I believe.
After all these changes I've discovered that for whatever reason my spark plugs are getting fuel fouled.

This is where I'm completely stuck. I'm not sure if its somehow just a bad relay, or if its a signs of my fuel pump going bad.

Could it be something as simple as a clogged fuel filter?

Also I'd like to note that I'm not throwing any codes. I was throwing codes for random cylinder misfires, but once I replaced the spark plugs those went away. I'm guessing they came from the fuel fouling of the spark plugs.

Any help on this would be great.

Re: Last no start thread before I take her in.

Ok I've been searching around and well tearing my hair out. But I think my issue might be a leaky fuel rail/injector(s). My reasoning is that she runs fine once she get started and there is no CEL. That rules out my ECU and any other sensors. There is an evident spark, but it gets weaker due to the fuel fouling of the spark plugs. I've been all over my Ignition system and everything seems to be intact and functioning properly.

She starts up perfectly right after I turn her off, but after sitting for an elongated period of time she doesn't want to start. I've had compression and timing test done and both checked out.

That being said today I'm gonna take out my spark plugs and clean them dry. (Of course I'm going to let my cylinders dry out as well.) Place them back into the cylinders and wait a few hours. After a bit I'm going to take them out and if they are wet again then I'm either gonna rebuild or replace my fuel rail. I've heard AEM is overkill for a N/A anyway.

Does this sound like a good idea? or game plan? Any Insight would be wonderful.

Re: Last no start thread before I take her in.

You should check your injectors for impedance to see if they are malfunctioning and spray carb cleaner around the injectors with the car running to see if they are leaking (it will idle up). Do this at your own digression though, it can be dangerous. It doesn't seem like injectors to me though. Injectors leaking would cause a vacuum leak (rough idle) or a dead cylinder/misfire usually.

Well my idle does fluctuate at start up.

I put some injector cleaner in my tank so hopefully that helps.

Re: Last no start thread before I take her in.

hey did you guys ever figure out the problem? I'm having the EXACT same problem, except my car has given up on starting at all. I changed the filter, injectors, regulator, EVERYTHING at least once [except the dizzy and coil, but I get spark]

I'm beyond stuck :/

Did you check the coil pack? It may have a crack in it and could be arching onto the hood.

Re: Last no start thread before I take her in.

You know whats funny, my coil IS cracked but its relocated... Maybe its arcing elsewhere. But I tried a new coil and it didn't seem to help :/

Re: Last no start thread before I take her in.

it was 160psi on all four cylinders on a completely cold engine, cranked over 3 times.

The only reason I don't want to go with compression is because when I changed the plugs out it was perfect for a day or two, but after that it went back to having a hard start. Its not as hard as it was before the plugs were changed, but its still mis-firing a bit on startup.
