Engines dies/shut off while driving

I need help with my 98 prelude 114k mileage. The car drives fine and everything works completely fine. Last night while driving the car died on me 3 times. It gave no warning or anything. No sputter at all. Rpm is idling normal. Light,ac,radio still works when car died. Sometimes the car wouldnt start back up right away. But once i move the batter wire around i would be able to start the car. Then this morning the car would start then dies. When i try to start the car theres a tick from the engine area once only. Then i move the battery wire around and it would start right up. Freeway car died again then i was able to start it in neutral. But this time everything was completely died but it came back on after a few secs. Hope someone can help me out as my gf also drives the car and shes scared it might die out on her. Sorry for the long ass story. Any help would be nice, Thanks

From the moving of your wire, it may be that your battery terminals are not making very good contact. You should clean the battery terminals and the insides of the clamps so they will make a good connection.

Its your ignition switch. I had the same problem on mine, I changed out the ignition switch and problem solved.

Re: Engines dies/shut off while driving

If he moves the battle cable and then it starts I would assume connection issue at the battery. Check both the batt and the iggy wires.

the alternator would supply enough current to keep the car going in the event the cable came loose/ disconnected. when he wiggles the battery cable it sounds to me like he may be "resetting" his problem and/or if it is the ignition the load causing it to break contact may be interrupted therefore letting the connection "reconnect" until under a load or overheating again. just saying

and yes, im the new guy but im no noob

I just fixed 94 Prelude this weekend. Same thing. I would drive it 35 minutes and then it would just die. After 3-5 minutes of sitting, it would start back up. It was the ignition module. Here is a video showing how to replace it: Replace Distributor
