my average mpg is unsually low.

Well today I noticed my gas has been going down a lot!
I usually can drive 2 weeks with a full tank, so I don't drive very much, and I don't floor it either. I filled up yesterday and now its little more than 1/4 of a tank gone. The mileage on the reader says I've driven 8 miles, so this is very unusual for me. This is began to happen after I had removed my IM to clean the EGR ports. I also added a new IM gasket that mates with the engine block and IM. Could there be a leak between the where the IM and block mate?

Was the IM torqued to specs? That is a lot of gas for 8the miles

I had trouble finding the specs, I just tightened it until it was tight but not very thread-killing tight. I was guessing it was that.

Re: my average mpg is unsually low.

Has this happened more than once? If it just happened maybe the float got stuck some how. I cant imagine it would dump that much fuel and there not be a considerable difference in how the car runs.

I wouldn't just call that unusually low…I'd call that dangerously low. Have you checked for leaks. For example, have you ever noticed a puddle of a liquid on the ground where you're car is after you pull out of a parking space or something, or when you get back to your car do you notice anything?

This is the first time it has happened. It happened after I cleaned the IM and added the new gasket. What is this float? :o

I know. lol I've checked for leaks and gas fumes, I didn't find any. I checked the fuel lines as well and everything seem good. I only find condensed water dripping from the AC.

Re: my average mpg is unsually low.

I managed to listen to the car while it was in idle, I heard hissing sounds that were in rhythm with the rpm. I was guessing there was a leak between the engine block and IM. I tightened down the nuts that held the IM, started the car again the hissing went away. I do not know the required torque specs, but I did not make it super tight to where I would damage the threading.

Thank you very much for this link. I found the page regarding the IM, and I found that the nuts need to be tightened down at 16 lbf-ft.
Once I can get a torque wrench I will check every single nut to make sure they are at the right specs.
