Re: Buying A Fifth Gen.

Honestly, This is too good for just one Car, I nominate you take out the 5th gen parts, ALOT of juicy details on Proper car purchase here. I repped you already, but this Info should be in general tech or news center. It would definitely stop alot of the "What do you think is this a deal threads." well at least cut it down by 20% LOL

Good Shit Bro!

Re: Buying A Fifth Gen.

I couldnt have worded it better!! Stability of fuel has nothing to do with ignition timing.

Re: Buying A Fifth Gen.

haha thanks man….That was part of the purpose of this thread: To cut down on the "What do you think of this prelude? Is this a good deal? Is this Guy legit?" kind of threads.

and joe…Im not quite sure what you're referring to I think you're referring to one of the comments on why one shouldn't put less than 91 octane fuel in the car and why that is…or you could be talking about the whole write up and then adding about the fuel and ignition timing.

Re: Buying A Fifth Gen.

Good write up. Next time you check in here though I'd just recommend you change the recommended fuel to 91 Octane.

I'm fairly sure that's high enough (94 is generally for nice motorcycles and cars that are turbo'd/truly meant for performance) and most places don't even carry higher than 91 Octane anymore haha.

Re: Buying A Fifth Gen.

Hey guys so I am looking at buying a fifth generation prelude. The car has 127 thousand kilometers on it with some upgrades. The upgrades include a single t3 turbo with blow off valve, push start, and many apperance upgrades. The car is listed at $7,500. Other than the obvious things like getting the car fax and lookin for damage, what other things should i look for? And how can you tell if the car is worth the listed price?

Re: Buying A Fifth Gen.

Sorry if this is late….been busy with School. Besides those two things…See it, Drive it, and be aware of exactly what the car acts like when you drive it. 7500 is a bit much for that many miles, but the guy is/was trying to get his money back on the upgrades. When you say "many appearance upgrades" my question for you is, is it big flashy body kits and such? Or are they tasteful? Anyway, If it's not too late, I hope this helps!

Re: Buying A Fifth Gen.

This is a great writeup for future prelude ownerss. I was also looking for a type sh. But during further research i found out that yes the base model definitely feels a bit heavier than normal not a huge difference but fef a little bit lighter than normal. With injen isp short ram i did notice a gain in mpg but also slightly because the 2.2l its a bigger litre of course. I have the optional wing on my base bb6. Great write up. Im sure i'll be spending more time on the forums now
Good luck

Octane lowers the fuels ability to ignite under pressure, thus allowing engines to run a higher compression and produce more power.
not trying to tell anyone what octane gas to buy or anything but logic/physics/common sense tells you not to do it. This is one of the reasons these days I'm so scared to buy a used car... never know how cheap the previous owner was.

I agree with you 100%.... You have to be so careful when buying a used car. And what are you saying my name for? Hah are you saying I've trashed my lude?

I didn't know the 5th gen burns oil, I don't know how many times I've removed and replaced the oil pan thinking there was a leak. Is there a way I can stop this from happening?

Re: Buying A Fifth Gen.

It seems like it would be worth getting. The only thing there is are you willing(and have the time) to figure out when its misfiring, and to fix it. I would not swap the motor because of a misfiring cylinder, but if multiple problems start to arise, I would start looking for another motor. I have personally never had a misfiring cylinder, so I couldn't tell you from personal experience how to do it, but I found a very detailed and informative article online on how to diagnose and fix it. So yes, to answer your question, I would hop on that…assuming everything else checks out. Is there body damage? If there is, how much? Has it been in a wreck? I could go on, but I think you catch my drift.

Re: Buying A Fifth Gen.

yeah my days are wide open to take the time to fix it. i was wondering if it could possibally be as simple as plugs and wires or injectors.. which i actually picked up a pair of h22 injectors this weekend just in case that could be it. i was thinking about taking the head off and checking the pistons. but before that i thought about doing a compression test.

Hey great post! I bought my 5g about a year ago and love it. Didn't even know about it till I got it. On that note some yahoo forgot to tighten down a 50cent hose clamp on the radiator and a month later blew the head gasket so just make sure you don't have any loose hoses and all your fluid levels are correct.

Re: Buying A Fifth Gen.

I still consider this sticky the penultimate guide to buying a 5th gen. Just wish I would've found it before I got my '01 SH! About 6 months after I bought it, I had to sink in $900 in routine maintenance work (engine mount, fuel induction flush, seal due to oil leak, etc.).

Keep up the great work. Ludes are so damn rare these days, and that's a good thing for us owners :)

Re: Buying A Fifth Gen.

Just a question, With my 1997 prelude, It has everything that a Type Sh should have. including the lip kit colored with the car, to the rear like on the spoiler and including the rims. The only thing missing is the ATTS when you turn on the power to the car, i figured it could be wiring issues or the light has burnt out. Any suggestions?
