New Exhaust

It took a day and then some, but I finally got my Apexi WS2 on. I wasn't planning on getting an exhaust yet, but the price was too good to pass up.

Looking kinda nasty (bought it used)...

After some cleaning

Finally installed

The install was a terrible experience, mostly due to the 11 years worth of rust on the stock exhaust bolts. Nothing would make them budge, so I decided to cut off the nuts with a dremel... only to find out that the bolts were even more rusted on than what I cut off. Eventually I realized that cutting a wedge from each hole would release some pressure, and after that, a couple taps from a hammer popped them out. Putting on the Apexi took like 20 minutes.

After cutting off the nuts

Last resort

Fk Honda and its evil bolts

The sound is niiiiiiiice. At lower RPMs it's quiet, but there's still a nice low rumble. At higher RPMs it just sounds sexy: not overly loud but very aggressive and noticeable. On my first drive with it, I kept hoping for opportunities to stop because it sounds so good during acceleration.

Maybe it's a placebo thing, but 1st gear also feels way better now. Accelerating in 1st just seems more even and smooth for some reason.

Re: NEW

Looks good. You should have just taken a blow torch the those bolts just to heat them up and gave them one good whack. I had the same problem with my 92 and I spent like 10mins trying to hammer them out and just decided to heat them up, after heating them it only took one hit each. Just make sure they're not going to land in your shoe after hitting them out.

You should post a clip if possible.

Re: NEW

This and adding a short shifter are the only mods I've done so far, but she's already way too much fun to drive, especially after getting my first speeding ticket recently

Haha that's exactly what I did. I was just beating the sh!t out of them with a hammer, then I gave up and grabbed the dremel. A torch would have been helpful throughout the whole process, but I don't have one and I was too lazy and dirty to go get one. The shoe thing wouldn't have even been an issue because I was laying on my back the whole time due to lack of clearance.

I'll definitely try to get a good video up soon.

Look around craigslist. I had to drive like 100 miles total to get this one, but it's worth it.

Re: New Exhaust

Very nice...enjoy it. I've got a flowmaster series 60 and I would say the same thing...not too loud, but noticeable...especially in the upper rpms.

Re: New Exhaust

None of the video cameras I have do the exhaust any justice. I'll try to post something soon regardless though.

It's nice to hear that others have had similar problems because I was starting to doubt my mechanical abilities after reading that it should take 1-2 hours max. I guess those were older threads or the authors' cars hadn't been through 10+ east coast winters.

All it needed was a little cleaning to make it look new again. My wallet is happy so I'm happy haha

Thanks and I definitely already am. My inner ricer wishes it was a little louder, but I know that any louder would mean increased cop attention and annoying everyone I drive near. The more refined, controlled sound fits the direction I want to go with mods.

I was just wondering what you did with your stock exhaust?

Right now it's just sitting in my garage. If I can't find a good place to store it, I'll probably just try to sell it.

It might be good to go with stainless piping and muffler if you can afford it. It looks better, lasts longer, and will save a lot of effort later on.

I decided I should keep the old exhaust just in case I ever need the stock one. Sorry
