A question about an oil leak...

After having the car or a while I have had the luck to get to repair 3 different oil leaks. The cam plug, oil cooler seal, and distributor seal have all been changed and are no longer dripping. So now I notice i have a slow drip again. Much slower than before but still dripping.

I got it on a lift today finally and was able to really look under it. If I am right its the oil pan gasket. The entire oil pan has oil on it. After being wiped cleaned I let the car sit for about 45 min. I noticed multiple spots begin to show signs of moisture on the oil pan seal. One of those is in the area of the main seal.

My main concern is that its the main seal and it will need to be replaced. Now while looking in to the gap under the transmission I can see the torque converter. Its bone dry. No oil at all inside the area at all. Whats the odds its just the pan gasket and not the main seal?

Re: A question about an oil leak...

you better pray its the oil pan gasket, cuz that's a million times easier to change than the main seals.

Re: A question about an oil leak...

Well about 3-4 months ago i got the trans rebuilt. While it was off, I looked at the main seal. It was dry but the oil was already leaking around the pan. The main question now is do I get a header since i have to remove it anyway?

Re: A question about an oil leak...

If you had the engine apart far enough to see the rear main why did you not replace it!?!!

Re: A question about an oil leak...

I was not doing the work. I was only dropping off new cv shafts. I happened to walk over and look at it while i was waiting on the guy.
