Icon9 2nd Cylinder Misfire help!

Ok can someone help me tell what is caused by a misfire? What parts are involved with the firing of the cylinders. My ecl came on and it would flash. I scanned it and it said there is a misfire in cylinder 2. Before all this i already replaced the spark plugs with Iridiums IX, spark plug wires to NGK wires, and I changed the distributor cap. After many months a less than 4 thousand miles later it says there is a misfire. Just now I changed spark plugs to Iridiums IX, i didnt change the wires coz the resistors are good and there new, and plus i replaced all of the parts, so I dont see why there is a misfire. Hopefully that it was the spark plug and they the ecl comes off after a few hours of driving it shuts off. But then Once i changed the plugs I can still hear the misfire from the exhaust. Also it idles less than 700 rpms, could that be the sound of the cylinders i hear from the exhaust bcoz its idling so low close to killing the car? Can someone please tell me the parts i might need to replace or take into consideration if its wasnt the spark plugs. Please can someone help me out. Thank you guys for your time.

Re: 2nd Cylinder Misfire help!

Many factors. I always say its the egr and the egr ports that are clogged.

Re: 2nd Cylinder Misfire help!

How many miles are on the car?

and I agree, it could possibly be your EGR - usually between 110k-130k you would need it done.

Re: 2nd Cylinder Misfire help!

I also think it could be the EGR. Mine clogged at just over 80k and caused a misfire. you could try running some seafoam through the egr system to fix it, but sometimes its too far gone for just a can of cleaner.

Re: 2nd Cylinder Misfire help!

Could it be overkill on the sparkplugs?

No, those are the better plugs for our cars - they work perfectly fine.

as said a few posts above - try a seafoam first and then have your EGR cleaned if that doesn't work

Re: 2nd Cylinder Misfire help!

Sorry to be a douche but if it isnt the egr, spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, then what could it be? :(( could the engine internals play a part in misfires? How much pressure would it take to change the gap on the spark plug? Would accidentally dropping the plug with no support (just simply holding the plug and letting it go) into port change the gapping?

And would egr affect all cylinders and plugs or just 1 or 2

Re: 2nd Cylinder Misfire help!

The EGR would throw a code in 1 if not 2 random cylinders for misfires.

I had 2 misfires when I needed mine done.

don't ever just drop the plug into the motor if that's what you mean - it has the chance of breaking. There is a tool to check the gap for new plugs that is sold at the auto stores if you don't already have one - it's only like $2 or something.

You should also consider a valve adjustment if you've not had that done in awhile as well.

How much do you think itll cost to do a valve adjustment? And i was wondering if you know where i can find videos or audios of what the H22A4 in a 2001 prelude should sound like?
