ECU problems need help!

Ok so i still have the stock ecu in my car and everything works perfectly fine. i have a chipped p28 with 2 step set at 3700 and vtec at 4800. my 2 step works perfectly fine but i dont crack vtec at all anymore. Do you think this is because they ecu is just running on a basemap? Im thinking that cause its just a basemap thats why, and once i get a tune it would work. But at the same time, if vtec doesnt work, then why does 2 step work? If you have any information let me know. thanks

Re: ECU problems need help!

if vtec isn't working with either ECU, than the ECU(s) CLEARLY aren't at fault.

try cleaning out your vtec solenoid. damn there's about a million threads on "vtec not working"

Re: ECU problems need help!

what he said.

If Vtec isn't working with either ECU than the ECUs are not the problem. Check the obvious things first, like oil level and the Vtec solenoid.

Re: ECU problems need help!

He says everything works fine with the stock ecu.

Its the chipped ecu that does not hit vtec

Oh my bad.... I didn't see that in the OP.

Re: ECU problems need help!

well, do you have p28 vtec ecu?
my p28 problem solved with this:
"you must connect a wire between pins A4 and D6 on the OBD1 ECU"

with p28 IAB is disabled, if you require IAB operation you must have Chipped P72 ECU which have "Full IAB (Intake Air Bypass) functionality for those utilizing a GSR/ H22 style intake manifold setup".

I think thats the reason, I have skunk2 intake manifold (where secondary butterflies have been removed) so p28 works for me, but if you run stock intake manifold you need that p72 ecu to get it work properly?

Re: ECU problems need help!

It ended up being the ecu. the person that sold it to me told me that they had it on ls vtec and vtec worked fine. he lied. whoever attempted to convert it to vtec did a **** job and thats the reason. everything is good now.

Stock H22a
Ebay headers/high flow cat
k&n cold air intake
Skunk2 intake manifold
Chipped p28 (crome)
dyno tune- 179.5whp
