Intermittent Starting Issues

I've been having some intermittent starting issues lately. It only seems to do it on really hot days after I've drove the car for more than 15 min, but it doesn't happen everytime. I will go to start the car and it will just turn over and over with out starting. Then after screwing around and waiting for a short while it always starts back up. I know it is getting spark when it won't start and I've already cleaned the throttle body so I know the plate isn't sticking. Therefore, I'm thinking it's a fuel problem or TPS problem.

Are there any relays or sensors that are notorious for breaking down under heat that could be causing this issue? Just trying to get something figured out before the weekend because I really don't want to miss IA. Thanks in advance.

Re: Intermittent Starting Issues

sounds like the starter to me. I had intermittent issues with starting mine while it was hot. If I went on a short trip parked for a few minutes and tried to restart it wouldn't happen. I'd have to wait until it completely cooled down.

Did you get in on the ignition recall btw?

Re: Intermittent Starting Issues

if it's particularly on hot days, that's notoriously the main relay. if you don't have the time to get a new one, just take it out and resolder all the connections.

this is everyone's answer for everything lol. I almost posted the same, but I had a similar experience to kev and it was the starter. Although he already dismissed me over on PP where this thread is also posted.

Re: Intermittent Starting Issues

Yea the starter always turns the motor over. Is there some sort of writeup for this main relay fix?

I agree 100%. I was going to say the same thing. I had the main relay go bad on both of my older Accords. The first time it happened it took me MONTHS to figure out. I bought a new one and it never happened again. Years later when it happened on my other Accord it knew what it was right away. I never had it happen on my Lude yet.

Re: Intermittent Starting Issues

AutoZone had a new one for 50 bucks with a lifetime warranty so I went ahead and bought it in hopes that it fixes my problem. I'll let you guys know after the weekend.

Re: Intermittent Starting Issues

all you really have to do to fix the main relay is take it out, resolder the pins, and bam. fixed. and I'm pretty sure there is a write up in the diy section for it

Re: Intermittent Starting Issues

well if it fixes your problem, you can at least take apart the bad relay and attempt to fix it. I've been doing some soldering lately with a project I'm working on, fun. lol
