ebay style halo vs retro headlight

Since I have had both just thought i would post pictures of both so people can see the differnce when wanting to buy some new headlights. The first two pictures are the ebay style with 6000k hid kit. The second two are retros done by Prelude1897 with 5000k hid. The biggest difference that i see is the light output buy the retros are a lot brighter for being 5000 compared to the halos being 6000. Also the retro have a greater light range side to side where the halo cut out and seem to be defused compared to the retros. Will be changing out the 5000k to 6000k for the retros next week and will update the picture. If this is in the wrong place will a mod please move it to the right section.

Re: ebay style halo vs retro headlight

Looks awesome! Also. The build quality of the halo's are horrible. People have had issues where the halo's go out or condensation builds up in the headlamp and whatnot. I've had my Retros for over 6 months. Easily the best mod I've ever done. Cut off with TSX Projectors is amazing and at the cut off line you'll see a really thin tint of blue. Love that look :)

Re: ebay style halo vs retro headlight

My halos went out three different times. first 2 times they were replaced by the place that I got them. They wouldn't do anything the second time. This is one of my favorite mods so far.

Re: ebay style halo vs retro headlight

So so they sell retros or would I have to cut some out from a car that comes with projectors? I been trying to figure this out for a while now. My Halos are not bad but they are not prefect either...

Re: ebay style halo vs retro headlight

You can order the projector components and do it your self or you can find a member that does retro such as prelude1897. That is who did mine he has done them for a lot of other members to.

Or you can look and see if there are any used retrofitted headlamps for sell. Got mine from a friend with a lude cuz he was selling his ride.

Re: ebay style halo vs retro headlight

Personally...Love my ebay's, but darn retrofits look good and are darn bright while they're at it. The problem with headlights from ebay is like most other things on ebay....you can never be too sure of the quality before you actually receive and see them for yourself. I might do a retrofit one of these days, but I'll have to find some black backing or housing for the lights...cause I love how mine look now.

Re: ebay style halo vs retro headlight

I've got TSX retrofits with other fun stuff like painted housings, shrouds, and the color mod/washer mod. They were expensive as ****. Pretty good, but if you wanna do a retrofit, go with S2000 projectors. They're the best. I should'a just payed a couple hundred more for the S2K projectors... The brightness from those projectors, coupled with Osram/Philips 4300K bulbs is too insane to describe in words.

The TSX projector is more colorful, however. And with the color mod, it's even prettier. It's basically a Form/Function thing. TSX being form, and S2K being function. Honestly, though, they're both great projectors.

Thank you. I bought the halos because I couldn't find any side by side comparison. If I saw them together I would never have bought the halos. Just saved up a little longer and bought the right once to start with. Hopefully it will help people not to make the same mistake that I made.

no those won't work. You'll need true HID projectors, not halogen projectors. There's a bit of a difference with light output which this thread provides. The ebay projector lights are designed with halogen projectors.

Great thread! When I finally decided to get projectors I always knew that I was going to go the retro route and this pretty much helped put the last nail in the coffin.

Re: ebay style halo vs retro headlight

Yeah I ish someone would have done something like this before I bought the halos. Would have saved me alot of headaches. Halos went out three times on me and had to be replaced under warranty. But still had to wait on them to come from Cali because thats where the shop I bought them from ordered the lights from.
