New Type-S intake (pics)

Hey guys, I just washed my lude and installed my type-s intake I snagged from a guy on craigslist for $75 I love the way it pulls in the low end and I can notice a little bit of a growl, especially in vtec. Let me know what you guys think!

Icon1 SH DRIVER the professor gives his analysis of the Type S intake

Well of coarse it does not have the shinny bling like other replacement intakes, but if your like me, functionally trumps bling.Of coarse it fits on your engine as if it belong there because it does. Some people will probably tell you that the additional power you feel from your new intake is not real based on Dyno results but I beg to differ. I don't believe the Type S intake does much to increase the engines instantaneous hp at any specific rpm. What I think the intake does, is give your engine a better kick in the low and mid rpm range by increasing the rate of build up of power with respect to time each time you quickly apply a significant amount of throttle. To put it in mathematical terms . it increases the value of the integral of PXdt . The simple way to put is it increases low and mid rpm throttle response which is a important engine characteristic that is often ignored by many .This is just my but dyno theory nothing more or less so you can take it or leave it.

note : I found this test of the Type S intake but I don't feel the 3% gain reported is enough for a person to feel it in a real world sense even if the gain is sustained over the engines entire power band.

jdmmonkey:
We installed one on Aavi's 5th Generation Honda Prelude down in Durban a while back without any further additional modifications, these were the results.

Base Run: 124kW @ 7500rpm / 187Nm @ 5700rpm.... (124kw=166hp )
Last Run: 128kW @ 7500rpm / 188Nm @ 5600rpm..... (128kw=171hp )
Our Gain: 4kW / 1Nm (Without any tuning work)....... ( 4kw=5hp)

Now the torque peak doesn't seem like much - but please do view the dyno sheet. You'll be surprised at the amount of torque gain everywhere! Power is also better through-out the range! This is a great JDM OEM piece to complete your engine bay. Not bad a bad gain for 15 minutes worth of product fitment ;-)

This work was carried out on a Mr Turbo dyno setup. (Product Page: Link | Dyno Graph: Link )

Looks great. I'd love to get a Type S intake to replace my V2. Keep up the good work.

Re: New Type-S intake (pics)

Thanks alot guys! I had a k&n drop in on my stock intake so I just washed it out and swapped it over. The rims are 17" Moda MD11s. I've been thinking of selling them and going back to stock and dropping it with the money from the 17s... might even paint the stockers bronze. hmmmm
