Wideband o2 questions

Sooo.. My question is, do i necessarily need to buy a wideband 02 sensor or will the shop thats tuning EMU provide one? Cause then i would simply weld in a bung nut and stick a bolt in it till i take it to the shop for the tune. I purchased a set of 3 greddy warning gauges not realizing that the a/f gauge was a three pronged piece of $h*!. Has anyone used this method? Otherwise im going with an innovate lm-1 wideband.

Re: Wideband o2 questions

you don't NEED a wideband, it's more of a peace-of-mind gauge to have.
yes, whomever you get tuned by is MOST LIKELY going to tune it with a wideband, than after you're tuned your AFR's shouldn't really ever change, other than from summer-winter, and cold/warm engines (and drastic altitude changes, and other factors....)

but if something starts going wrong, a wideband can help you diagnose what could potentially be wrong.

personally i'd never have a boosted car w/o my innovate LC-1 and XD-16 gauge. i had it in the turbo'd lude, now have it in the STi....

I'm no expert but don't both of those gauges just show the a/f mixture

the LC-1 is just the controller and sensor that monitor the AFR, then you need a gauge (XD-16, or something of the liking) to actually READ the AFR. this is what I would recommend to buy for a permanent install.

the LM-1/2 is the more advanced one that both of my tuners have used, which has datalogging capabilities, and other functions that only tuners need and the average joe-shmoe don't really need.

Re: Wideband o2 questions

Thanks twokexlv6coupe. Ill keep that in mind. I also have an EGT gauge as well as that "slightly better than narrow band" A/F gauge that I could use for monitoring. From what i have researched people preach its accuracy and others say its nothing more than decoration. Ill install it and compare it to the shops wideband to determine if i need to buy the LC-1 for monitoring purposes.

Re: Wideband o2 questions

I would definitely invest in a WBO2. I don't know what your setup is going to be, but I would recommend one for sure. Even if it is just for peace of mind.

I myself had a PLX wideband and it was great. I never had any problems with it, and from some research they are pretty damn accurate and not too expensive. I have also heard good things about the Innovate WBO2.
