97 5spd Prelude shifting issues

My Lude has difficulty shifting into gear when engine in running. No grinding noise, car has new clutch/flywheel(Exedy and F'za).

What may be the cause. Any ideas will be welcomed.

Re: 97 5spd Prelude shifting issues

Hard to shift while running but not when engine is off?

Would lead me to think that the clutch isn't disengaging.

Thats my .02

Re: 97 5spd Prelude shifting issues

theres an entire thread about the clutch and the clutch system. if you used the search box you would have found your answer. you probably need to change the master cylinder or the slave cylinder or both.. when you press on the clutch can you get it into any gear or just specific gears?

I was having the exact the same issue last week, checked the clutch fluid compartment under the hood and sure enough was pretty empty, added some (break fluid) and I also changed my trani oil, now shifts like brand new!

The clutch fluid is full. The car sometimes goes into gear when a push hard , getting it out of gear once engaged is as difficult as getting it in. Car however drives fine when it goes into gear.

Thoughts?

Did you replace the throw out bearing too? Does the clutch pedal feel stiffer or different at all? Did you make sure there is enough transmission fluid?

Yes, the throw out bearing is new. The pedal is softer than before, the transmission reservoir is full.

I think the shift linkage is fine because the car shifts fine when the engine is off.

Re: 97 5spd Prelude shifting issues

I know that H series motors do not have pilot bearings stock but sometimes aftermarket flywheels require a pilot bearing but I cant remember which ones do, but my guess is the master cylinder or slave cylinder is going bad, and keep checking clutch fluid to make sure it doesn't go down any

Re: 97 5spd Prelude shifting issues

Do this online shop Clutch City Online sell OEM parts as they claim ? What is their reputation for selling quality products.

I am looking to buy the master/slave cylinder from them. Any recommendation will be welcomed.

Not sure , for clutches,I strongly recommend Exedy. It is one of the best you can get.

Re: 97 5spd Prelude shifting issues

check out rockauto.com doing my whole build with them and they rock...pun intended if the parts come from the same warehouse and they often do u pay a flat shipping rate then after every purchase they give u 15% off next. get brand parts for less dnt go to autozone there all generic. taught this good lesson...got a sealed nongreasable ball joint w/ lifetime brand new rotors pads ex. so i get the spend 100 get 20 thing. sounds like a good deal. but after install the ball joint rubber blows up under 3 months, gets grease on my new pads and rotor, lands on the exhaust apparently they r sealed because the special grease is highly flammable and now i dnt have my 80 dollars or my regal

Re: 97 5spd Prelude shifting issues

i agree with bleeding the clutch. Unless ur having sychro prob. If i think the motor being off will have nothing to do with it too. If a mechanic did the work, then make them figure it out.
