Excessively loud EVO 2? and more!

I am new to this forum as well as this scene.

I've been shopping 5th gen's for a couple months and went to see one yesterday that I like on whole but have some reservations. I hoping to get some advice and hope everyone will forgive any ignorance -- I have searched...trust me.

The car is a 98 with an H22A4 that was swapped in recently due to a nitro meltdown on the previous block.

Basically my two main reservations are that the exhaust is excessively loud within the cabin. It has a Greddy EVO 2 catback with another brand of aftermarket headers (not sure which). It's mostly lower rpm when it's loud, but I'm afraid that over time it's really going to bug me. It's almost not possible to have a conversation without shouting at those lower revs.

The other is the SRS light being on. I know that Hondas are notorious for having these come on for no reason, and I am thinking about having the codes checked to see, but don't see a point in wasting that money if I'm not more committed. The car has never had any record of any accidents, and so I can infer no bag deployment. The guy said he talked to a Honda tech who said it's probably not a big deal and they'd be able to fix it at the dealership for like $200.

I know this probably is heresy here, but would a EVO 2 swap to stock be possible?

There are a lot of positives to the car (especially the Tein SS suspension and low mileage on the new block), but am just a little unsure. The SRS more so than the exhaust.

wow, usually evo 2's are pretty quiet. if it really is that loud (or RASPY) than the cat was prolly replaced by a test pipe.


as long as the exhaust was only bolted on and not welded, yes you can easily go back to the stock exhaust.
