H22A4 to which H22A? (Staying OBD2)

I'm currently looking to replace my H22A4 with an H22A. My plan is to keep the car OBD2 while doing so. While shopping around I'm noticing the 92-96 H22A is a bit less than the 97-01. Would my best option be spending the extra money for the 97-01 or is swapping the 92-96 the same?

Well if you want to keep it obd-2 you will have to swap out parts from your H22a4 to the H22a. When I did my H23a vtec swap I had to change the IM, distributor and crank sensor from the H22a4 to make it work. A 97-01 H22a I think you will still have to change out parts to make it work. The obd-2 engine cost more cause its newer then the obd-1 H22a and I could be wrong...

If you want to keep it simple stay with obd 2. Swapping the parts is not as easy as it sounds. But obd 2 I don't think is easy to tune. That's if you plan on it.

im assuming ur referring to the jdm h22a and not the usdm h22a1 vtec (for the obd1 motor)..
imo i'd say stick to the obd2 h22a rather than the obd1 h22a.. although its more expensive, its a simpler swap and u'll have a bit higher CR than the usdm h22a4.. jdm h22a from type S is at 11.0:1 cr

of course engine choice depends on what ur future plans are for the motor too.. turbo, fully built NA or just simple swap?
