Prelude on Top Gear. Was Jeremy wrong about it?

Who thinks Jeremy Clarkson was wrong about the Lude not being just the greatest car ever built. When they reviewed coupes back in the late 90s, it was one of the first cars (along with the Toyota Celica) that went bye bye.
He simply didn't get the joy of driving a Prelude!
Don't believe me?

Re: Prelude on Top Gear. Was Jeremy wrong about it?

What most people dont realize is show like that, magazines, reviews... they are all biased due to companies that sponsor them. They will always choose they part or car that paid most for the spot. Also they are tied in with other sponsors that are tied to those brands.

Re: Prelude on Top Gear. Was Jeremy wrong about it?

He still put it in his top 100 cars, 70 something I remeber.

Anyway, TopGear presenters have an unjustified bias for Alfas. And the 200SX = Sha-wing!!!

Re: Prelude on Top Gear. Was Jeremy wrong about it?

Jeremy :

Read how C@D about the 5th gen Prelude after a 7 car comparison test in 1999.

"""The Prelude is persuasive because their are no sink holes in its torque curve, because its imperfections don't deter its path, because in manifest minimal squat and dive, because its delicate steering seems to divine your next move, because its cockpit is vibration free, because its ride is firm but not rattly, because you can jump off the throttle at any rpm and not startle the drivetrain, because its engine (unlike the Acura's and the Toyota's) remains mellifluous beyond 5000 rpm, because the actions of its clutch are as smooth as Clarence Darrow's,because its brakes retard rather then disrupt, because it extends the driver's comfort zone on do-it-or-die corners, and because it reliably makes its pilot feel like Mika Hakkinen in Budapest. It is,in short,a surgeon's tool for straightening intestine like byways. Our editors griped that Hond's engineers waited to long to redo the Integra. The Prelude is the best Integra ever made."""'

Preludes score was the highest at 96 including the only car to get a perfect fun to drive score of 10.

There is another episode where he reviews the 4th gen Prelude and LOVES it! ...too bad for you 5th gen'ers

oh, and to be honest, when i was in High School and Honda dropped the 5th gen Prelude, everyone I knew was having a fit on why they changed the styling. At the time, 95% of "tuner-kids" disliked the new design. I remember specifically a classmate was telling me, "I can't believe Honda did that! the previous one was perfect!"

Ha Ha HA : I was around to here what people were saying when they came out with the 4th gen Prelude. The car critics later on simply could not believe that Honda ended up using the same styling as Oldsmobile (NO LIE) in the styling of the 4th gens body. Also the reason why the tuners did not like the 5th gen Prelude was that with its improved header and suspension complete with a 1.2 " drop compared with the 4th gen Prelude for example , the 5th gen Prelude was one well refined car that did not need much in the way of refinement. If you wanted something to fix back then ,you would go it a CIVIC,Del-so or the rich mans CIVIC.

I personal am glad they went back to what was called by some back in the day the baby NSX front end styling which was a refinement that stared with the fantastic 2nd gen Prelude and was further enhanced in the 3rd and then the 5th gen Prelude.I could not see myself driving a Oldsmobile back in 1999.

Special performance enhanced, track ready Honda's: NSX TYPES S @ TYPE SH PRELUDE that Jeromy should have had available to test.

Re: Prelude on Top Gear. Was Jeremy wrong about it?

Too bad the Olds Alero was released in 1999 and the 4th gen was in '92. So that does not make sense. Your picture of the 4th gen is not on stock sized tires, note my sig pic for correct height. When Jeremy tested the 4th gen it was a S (f22) not the Vtec version, so of course the V6 cars were better.

When I look at a 5th gen compared to the Alfa, I like the Alfa better. Having driven a 5th I will say my 4th is much better. The interior or the 5th is outdated for when it came out. But the 5th gen has aged very well.

Now You have to remember Jeremy also rated the 5th gen as Japans best looking car later in 2001 in the DVD Jeremy's Top 100 cars. It placed 73rd.

hahaha Add to that....A slow, fat midget that can't turn corners well, has no personality, and IMO can't be called a real car.

Re: Prelude on Top Gear. Was Jeremy wrong about it?

I resent the world slow being used in the same sentence as a Prelude. We may not be the fastest thing on the road, but we are definitely not slow. save slow for civics, del slo's and my least favorite cars, DSMs(not evo, of course) and Prius'
