Turbo build questions

So I picked up a garrett t3/t04e 57trim turbo today and im in the process of piecing together a custom kit and running a low 7psi boost. Im in no rush since money doesnt grow on trees so i guess what im saying is that I am looking for a setup that will get the job done without any extra flash and whistles. Im using maxrevs kit as a reference and the first thing i notice is that they are asking 400 for the universal charge piping kit and 600 for the ic. Thats a bit steep in my opinion so i was wondering if you guys know of any cheaper routes that will perform. My buddy went with an ebay kit for 200 and it works but im still a bit skeptical. Thanks a lot.

Re: Turbo build questions

Just have an exhaust shop weld you the intercooler piping, advantages are that you will not have any boost leaks and it will be a lot less than 400, disadvantage is that its medal so it will heat up a little

Amazon.com: Mishimoto MMINT-UM Universal Intercooler M Line: Automotive This should be fine for your intercooler, idk about the size you will need though so this may be the wrong size. Mishimoto seems to make pretty good stuff IMO.

You know even just running 7psi you may disable your ATTS because of the power you will be running and its not guaranteed to last very long, did you do a compression test? You planning on getting a legit tune also?

Re: Turbo build questions

Yea i do plan on getting a legit tune. And so far i have been getting great deals. Like my emanage ultimate for 200 brand new with untouched jumpers and the Garrett turbo for only 230 with no shaft play. Like i said im in no rush so im waiting for the right stuff to fall into my lap like the first two. That ic looks great but i should have been more clear because im looking for a 2.5' in/outlet diameter. Great start though

Re: Turbo build questions

for the most part, an IC is an IC. some do flow better and some have more/less pressure drops than others, but your basic cheap ebay IC will suffice for most applications.

piping is ONLY piping, the only thing you'll wanna make sure you get is bead-rolled ends so your not blowing couplers off left and right.

couplers, just make sure you get some DECENT couplers, like 3-ply.

quality CLAMPS are by far more important than couplers. get t-bolt clamps all around, and that's that.

Re: Turbo build questions

So i just did a compression test and i have 240 psi across the board. Which is shocking to me because before me it had two previous owners who both did mods to the car. For this build im not going cheap im just going smart. Like twokexlv6coupe stated ic piping is only piping. What i will stick the most money into is the turbo and the tune. Anything mechanical is worth the money.
