Replacement Keys

So I stupidly lost my only key to my car trying to help someone out. Anyways, I have a spare key made at Walmart that will only unlock the doors and such. I called Honda and they say my only option (besides for finding the lost key) is to completely replace the immobilizer and get a new set of keys to go with it. All told he quoted me at $750. That's not including the towing fee to get it to the dealership.
That sounds like a ton of bull to me. I called a local locksmith and they gave me a flat rate of $125 total, parts and services. They'll even go out to my car.

Any comments? Besides hate comments reiterating how stupid I am for losing my key. I already feel cruddy about it. My poor car had to sit out all night in front of Autozone, vulnerable to thiefs and vandals.

Re: Replacement Keys

If you have the red key you can get a new one made at the dealership easy peasy. Can you contact the prev owner maybe?
Other than that i think they're right. Also i don't think the local locksmith is counting on replacing your immobilizer. They sure as hell will come out and re-key your car for $120, but it will do what your walmart key does and nothing else.

Re: Replacement Keys

I second that question! Did you get another key from the previous owner, or did someone find your key and turn it in?
