5 speed swap will help you with torque and horsepower :) seriously why are you tracking an auto?

If your dead set on keeping the auto, then don't track it! Automatics don't like to be used.

Re: NEED TORQUE!

Prelude's are not configured to be drag cars.Your car is geared and the engines high rpm biased torque favor someone who is cruising down a back winding road where 1st gear is only used to get the car moving and then 2nd and 3rd gear take over.Just give up drag racing ,go find your self a curvy back road to have fun at or go trade your Prelude in on a more appropriate drag car like a Mustang.

Ha. Tell that to blake(98vtec).

But to the op. I would definitely stop drag racing the auto. Especially launching it. That trans will die very quickly. 5spd swap will gain you the most hp/tq over anything else at this point.

Re: NEED TORQUE!

I'm sure he's just a kid and got his car and trying to street race.

First off, why are you abusing your car cuz I know you wouldn't "track" your car if it was bone stock, especially and auto. and second, obviously it's not track because for sure your VTEC wouldn't be able to kick in enough that it would rape another car.

Your options:
-Stop street racing.
-Learn the hard way and get your license suspended.

Just stick to Touge battles because its safer, the cops don't consider it racing in the biblical sense of the word and your 5th gen Prelude is configured (high rpm biased torque) so in back road situations it can give most people in performance road cars a run for their money.

How do you know he wouldn't track his car? Plenty of people bring their cars to the drag strip for fun no matter what it is. Don't just come outta left field saying he is street racing. If he was a dumb kid he woulda said that in the first place.

Good advise, good thing he uses it on the track though.

Re: NEED TORQUE!

nothing adds power like a 5spd swap. someone on here dynoed before and after one. before he was making something like 120-130 to the wheels and after it was close to 185 or around there. thats your best bang for your buck. you could also turbo/SC it. a nice exhaust can add a great deal of hp and tq. same with intake manifold and a TB. just do research, making power isnt easy on these cars, and making torque on a honda is near impossible lol

Ls1 w/tranny, rx7 Ifs, 5th gen lude.

Maybe....... Winter?

Anyways, our ludes are more of a GT car. High speed long distance. There is a highway about 50 miles north of here that I have banned myself from driving. All three times I've driven it, I've been over 125mph.

Point being - our cars CAN be drag cars but there are far better choices out there.

Should have gotten a muscle car man. I got my prelude because its just a clean car all around. I stopped racing after i sold my integra, all it does is destroy your hard work.

Re: NEED TORQUE!

Trust these guys. Well they guys who told you to get a manual tranny. That is the best start to get more torque, I've seen auto ludes get 18 seconds you can make that 15 seconds if you have a manual transmission. Then from there you may kick some more civics and tegs (stock).

Re: NEED TORQUE!

The Prelude is definitely a gt car, its always been heavier and more plush than other sports cars from Honda. There weren't really any stripped down hardcore versions of it like a type r or whatever.

Re: NEED TORQUE!

ive seen 1/4 mile times from auto and manual ludes and the times are only marginally different. im talking a tenth of a second. and the faster car wasnt always the 5 speed. the other funny thing was the times werent that different for base unmodded ludes compared to those with headers, intakes exhaust mods. still within a quarter second. in the end, you could change to a 5 speed for better o-30 times but sacrifice your 30 - 60 time.
