headlight situation...

hey guys,
first timer here. i just bought my first lude- 5th gen, auto (yeah, i know), 198k miles.
so my problem is that the driver side headlight doesn't work. when i flick the high beams on, there is only a slight glow on the bulb. i've replaced the bulb and cleaned the contacts and had the same result. behind the headlight is another gray plug, not connected. it's a little smaller than the h1 connector. i'm thinking of splicing the wires together to see what happens, but wanted to check with the experts to see if anyone knows where this plug was designated or what could possibly be my problem.
also worth noting is that it's a reconstructed and the engine was swapped out who knows when, so maybe a different harness?
can anyone help?

i'm holding the unconnected gray plug.

i know it's pretty gross under the hood, but does anyone know where this wire goes? it has been taped up and ends- i'm guess i'm not getting juice somewhere important...

thanks for any info.
