Balance shaft Questions???

Hey guys, quick question about balance shafts between the h23 and the h22. I the rear one that has the two gears that drive it is the same part number for both. those those are the same i assume. The front one has a different part number, i'm assuming its a different shaft. In my H23 block can i or should i use my h22 stuff or use the h23 ones that i got in a box of parts from the kid i bought the block off of. Any thoughts on those? thanks everyone!

Re: Balance shaft Questions???

As the rpms on a 4cyl engine goes up , the engine has a tendency to shake itself to death. The balance shafts act as a mechanical resonance tuning tool that reduces the amount of shaking of the engine and is problem that had to be overcome by Honda for the long term health of their engines before they could push the rev limit up from about 6.5k to the present cars 7.4 k red line.
900 rpm might not seem much to the average person but the stress that the additional rpm's place on the engine are significant. You should use the balance shafts that came with the particular block you have because those parts are in effect tuned to that blocks vibrating characteristics.

Re: Balance shaft Questions???

It has been proven that the balance shafts are just for comfort, they do not actually stop the motor from "shaking itself to death". Blake doesn't run balance shafts on his 14:1 compression beast that he is gonna rev to like 9k rpm's. Lilbill97 doesn't have balance shafts and he has 479whp and 343wtq and I am sure he revs past 6.5k rpms.

Re: Balance shaft Questions???

I did the math, If you have 321 ft lbs of torque available , you can create 293hp at as low as 4792 RPMS and at that rpm balance shafts aren't needed. I am not saying you can't run with out balance shafts .The only question is how long. I mean all engines have some type devices that performing the same function as a balance shaft .I believe they relive the bearings and other moving parts of abnormal loads and extend the life of all the mechanical parts of the engine and things that are connected to the engine like water pumps, alternators and power steering pumps. These balancing devices are located and the end of the crank shaft behind the pulleys and on the crank across from each piston on all cars.Try removing them and then let us know what happens.lol

Seized balance shaft can engine still run? - Honda-Tech

How many miles do you have on a Balance Shaft Delete?

^ This is Ford's........ FORD'S (You know how unreliable they are ) that have gone 50k+ miles with mods

If a ford motor can make it 50k+ miles with out balance shafts our motors can easily make it 100k miles IMO
