Tokico Illumina sport shock

I posted this on pp, but would like to get a broad range of opinions on this.

So yesterday I put on a set of DC5 ITR rims with 25mm spacers. After that, on almost every bump I go on, my tires would scrap the fender liners badly.

So I'm guessing I would need to upgrade my springs. Is it ok to just get springs and not shocks, I'm planning on just getting Tein H-techs and leave it as is with my stock shocks, I have about 140k on my car.

Also, if I should need new shocks with it, is this a good deal or is it a fake? The color of the shocks and different then the ones on Egay, and its priced really low.

Re: Tokico Illumina sport shock

are you sure you aren't already lowered? sounds like your wheels aren't in the recommended offset range. ok i looked it up, those wheels you mention are +60 offset... and your 25mm spacers put it at +35.. you are about 10 mm off from the recommended offset.

i wouldn't ever lower your car on stock shocks.

link of said shocks on ebay?

Re: Tokico Illumina sport shock

Yea, I'm not lowered at all, but I'm guessing my shocks or springs are really worn, and somehow that makes me a bit lowered.

Oh yea, I called the site and the shocks are about $180 a pair.

Re: Tokico Illumina sport shock

i forgot to mention, the like you posted is to the tokico HP's. the illuminas you speak of (i suppose are the ones you found on ebay) are different. they should be white. the link you posted are to the tokico HP's (blues) the only difference is illuminas are adjustable. as far as sportiness or ride quality, i don't imagine there to be much of a difference. i'm sure the range of settings on the illuminas would encompass the setting the HP's are tuned to. but yeah, the illuminas are more expensive then the HP's.

haven't heard anything bad about them yet. If your car is a DD with some spirited driving they should be great.

Re: Tokico Illumina sport shock

So basically if I upgrade to FF type 1 coilovers, it would stop the tire rubbing issue? My current stock shocks/springs are so worn, I can make the rear of the car bounce up and down just by pushing the trunk.

Re: Tokico Illumina sport shock

Or I can just just tokico blues with tein H-techs?

Is that combo as good as a coilover, I understand you wouldn't be able to adjust it, but I'm not looking to lower my car that much, maybe 1 inch or so.

Re: Tokico Illumina sport shock

either or would work fine for just an inch. yeah if you can bounce your back end like a basketball, you got some blown shocks. if you're only going an inch lower, your offset won't cause a problem. but in the future if you decide to go lower, it could.

Re: Tokico Illumina sport shock

Actually on ebay, I can get 4 KYB GR2 shocks for about $210 shipped, and about $170 for Tein H-techs. I think I'm gonna go with this combo.

Re: Tokico Illumina sport shock

hey, what ever melts your butter, right? glad you made the decision. because no one can make the decision for you. you'll be more happy with your decision then if someone else made it for you.

Re: Tokico Illumina sport shock

Your right, I'm a bit on a budget and this combo doesn't like too shabby.

So after changing the shocks and springs, my tires wouldn't scrape the fender liners that much anymore due to the stiffen suspension upgrade?

Re: Tokico Illumina sport shock

you can't really say for sure being that your offset is in the unknown region. and depending on how much you actually lower it. i would suggest some smaller spacers though if you do continue to rub. you want to keep your offset between 45-50. you might be able to get away with 42-44 if you don't go to low. i want to say mine are right in the middle of the recommended range (48) and i NEVER rub. i've had my suspension almost as low as it could go and i still didn't rub. granted i only went up the street and back, but i do have a steep driveway.

Re: Tokico Illumina sport shock

Sorry to bring back an old post but does anyone know if the shocks are interchangeable between 4th and 5th gen ludes? Found a set on a doner car I'm using for the trans swap (win much?)

I'm always the final owner of any prelude I own.

I'd rather lose by a mile because I built my own car than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.
