Looking to buy a 1997 Prelude. Advice?

Hey fellow prelude fans. I'm looking to buy a prelude after my 88 got wrecked a few months ago in a car accident. I'm going to look at a 1997 prelude on Saturday and seeking some advice. The car is black with 115,000 miles with the timing belt and water pump replaced at 100k. It is an Auto SS transmission with a super clean interior and a pretty clean looking engine. Any advice on what to look for when I go to check it out? The car is priced at $3900 and I was thinking if it looks good I should take it to a honda dealership to get it checked but Im not sure. Thanks for the advice.

Dont get it. Auto trannys are slow and prone to problems.

Is the tranny problem that big of a deal considering the car made it to over 100k miles?

Re: Looking to buy a 1997 Prelude. Advice?

it depends if u want an auto an the tranny doesnt seem to be giving issues then i say go an buy it.
but if u can wait, u mite find another one with some more miles on it but it would be a 5speed

i got a 5th gen wid an auto tranny so far the only issue i have is that sometimes when it cold the trans seems to go hard into the next gear.
once u change ur fluid ( use honda ATF) and maybe put on a tranns cooler u shud be fine, an also dont beat on it wen its in tip tronic u'll tranny cud last awhile.

during that time u saving up for the swap lol

Take it from my experience.

Get a 5-Speed MANUAL, you will be happy with it. Auto tranny's on these ludes tend to crap out. I bought an Auto-Lude SS Black 97 with 125K in 2007 for 5G's...1 year later, I had to get the Tranny rebuilt for $1,400 around 137K. I drove it like 10K miles and the tranny went out. Now it runs fine after I got it rebuilt but I'd rather have a 195HP 5speed

5-SPEED will save you money, even if it has more miles. Plus its much funner, and more potential!
