Re: Original motor verification? How do you know?

From what I know, the motor is suppose to be the same VIN as what's on your dash... and your ownership. In Quebec, Canada. Everything has your VIN engraved. Bumper, door, spoiler, etc...

Yeah your vin is located on your block in the back (drivers side i believe) I don't know if you will be able to see it without pulling the motor... I saw mine when I pulled the motor lol

The VIN on the motor should match the VIN on the dash!

Why do people insist on making a post saying the same thing someone already said?

Re: Original motor verification? How do you know?

like everyone said vin on the back of the block, but only newer years have it. i can't remember when they started to put the vin on the back. i do know all h22a4 have vins on the back. (USDM). As for the small vin number under h22a4 that is another way you can id the block. year, model, and vin number that block was issued to. thats how my brother and i were able to id his type r block since it was missing the long green vin on the block. the small numbers are also what cops use to id the block since the long green vin on the back is easy to remove.
you can take the small number in the front to the dealer and have your block id. thats if the guy isn't an a$$ or lazy about it.

Re: Original motor verification? How do you know?

The small number under the H22 stamped into the front of the block is the engine number, and has nothing to do with the VIN.

Not sure how they work in all countries, but here there is a plate rivetted to the firewall. This plate is engraved with the VIN, engine number and various other ID methods.

But probably IMO the easiest way is to pick up a phone and call your local registration authority. Quote your VIN and ask them what the original engine fitted to the car was. They almost certainly will have a record of the engine fitted when the car was first registered.
