RUBBER SMELL

Hey guys. I have a problem. When I'm going high rpms and some times when I'm not I start to smell a burning rubber smell and at night since I have hids. It shows the smoke so there is also white smoke coming from engine. Also my belts squeal on cold start. So do you think it could be my belts heating up?

Re: RUBBER SMELL

Rubber smell? Isn't that usually the smell of your clutch burning? Just my random guess.

Re: RUBBER SMELL

Burnt clutch doesn't smell like burnt rubber, just saying, clutch has a distinctive smell.

Re: RUBBER SMELL

kinda sounds like clutch to me, and if you dont know any better clutch does kinda smell like burnt rubber just like brakes do. it could be the belts to though take a look at them and see if it looks like they are burnin up

Re: RUBBER SMELL

doubt its the clutch. how do you guys know if hes manual anyway??? the clutch DOES have a VERY distinct smell. if your belts are squeeling, check the edges, look for burnt frayed areas. run your car, use the throttle in the bay to rev up and down to get it into higher rpms, and see if you can see the smoke. or go drive around for a bit, then pop the hood and feel how hot your belts are. you really should change them anyway, you could have some major problems if your t-belt snaps.

Re: RUBBER SMELL

okay so i checked it out. a coupole days ago i removed the valve cover to attempt to paint it which didnt happen lol.
there is a bunch of liquid behind the top left of the gasket. i think its oil and i think it may be leaking because i didnt put on correctly? or something idk but i think it has to do with that

Re: RUBBER SMELL

definitely not burning oil, very distinct smell as well. drive around, wait for smoke, pop hood, locate source

Re: RUBBER SMELL

I figured out the problem.. when I put the valve cover back on I crushed the gasket :( all of my oil leaked out basically. it costed me 80 bucks to replace it and 130 for labor aghhh I'm an idiot.

Re: RUBBER SMELL

Did he change your blinker fluid while he was working on the engine. Sometimes that could turn solid and create a huge problem.

If he didn't I'll clean it for you for a small fee
