Car has trouble starting when cold

Hey guys,

I've noticed that whenever its cold outside, like below freezing, the car will take a while for the ignition to engage.

I'll step on the clutch and turn the key however nothing happens, I dont even hear the cranking noise. Usually i have to leave the ignition in the middle position (when all electronics turn on) and wait 15-30 seconds then start her up again and she'll be fine.

Usually the colder it is the longer i have to wait for her to start up. Is this normal due to the cold weather or does something need to be replaced or checked?

Thanks

below freezing..are your batteries meant to provide solid amps while at that temp?

Sure in Canada during winter months batteries should start up no problem. I've never had this issue with any car before. Just wondering if it's in fact a faulty battery or some other issue. Was hoping someone else had experienced this issue before :S.

Re: Car has trouble starting when cold

I live in Canada and I have no issues at all. Could be the battery, could be the starter. Those are my two guesses but I wouldn't know. Maybe test out a friends battery?

Re: Car has trouble starting when cold

An ECT sensor can cause a car to do that at cold as well . Make sure the resistance is within spec using a DMM.
