Help! She won't pass smog!

So I just bought myself a 5th gen prelude yesterday and I took it to get it smogged today. Low and behold it fails because it threw a code

P1457 - code number

Something to do with EVAP control system leakage (evap can system)

Someone tell me what I need to replace/fix? Could it just be the gas cap?

Thanks

well if it is that the gas cap wasn't on tight enough then it would take 75 good starts to clear the code i believe..if you got a scan tool yourself clear it and see if it comes back after doing a little work to it to see if it clears up the problem..thank god I don't have smog laws.

Pull the battery cable after checking the gas cap and see if it comes back after driving for a week.

Indeed I do have an evap canister leak, the solenoid that sits on top of the canister is making a loud ticking sound, almost louder than my engine! It sounds like the valve is stuck open or closed...

OEM replacement is 200 dollars, waiting on a pep boys part..

Re: Help! She won't pass smog!

I think that is supposed to be ticking...

Before buying any parts download the service manual for the lude and do the test to find where the problem is coming from.
