Climate control questions

I took a road trip in the Lude this past week. As I was driving home I wanted to try to save a little gas. So I turned the temp on the ac down about 1/8th of the way. Thus allowing the compressor to kick off a bit and ended up saving me about a quarter a tank over the 350 mile trip.

So here is my question. If I'm running the ac and i push the temp toward the red side, will the heater begin to come on or does having the ac button on override the heater all together? I basically want to know if there is a point where the heater and the ac would be working at the same time?

Re: Climate control questions

The heater and A/c should not end up working at the same time. Not 100% sure, but if you have the selector in heat the a/c compressor clutch should not kick on. I will check that though next day i go into work..just to see if i am correct in my answer.

Re: Climate control questions

To be more specific, Im not worried about the ac coming on while using the heater. Im concerned with the heater coming on while using the ac on a lower temp setting.

lower=colder
higher=warmer

the heat isn't going to come on. just runs the compressor less. when you raise the temp (slide the lever toward the red)

So I could go all the way to the thinest point of the blue strip? Doubt I would ever go that far but I was just curious.

Re: Climate control questions

If you press the defrost button, even if you're all the way over to the red, the A/C turns on automatically so dry air is blowing. I believe the heat will turn on.

Re: Climate control questions

When you start getting a cross between the blue and red you balance out the temp. just like matching the tempature outside..your not really gonna get the cold air..but your not gonna get heat.
