RIP Lude :(

So the other day I decided to take my car to wendy's to hang out with my friend, little did I know that it would be a terrible decision and I would loose 5 quarts of oil somehow (still a mystery to me how the f**k do you loose 5 quarts of oil in like 2 miles?!) on my way back home I noticed it started feeling weird but I was like .1-.2 miles from my house so I keep driving it it dies in my neighborhood like 100 feet from my house, luckly it was downhill so I just let it coast into my house. Look down and there is oil everywhere under the car, literally EVERYWHERE, I check the dipstick and its completely dry. I have no clue what could have caused this much oil to leak out period, I checked the oil the day before and it was full. I had driven 150 miles on that oil and the oil level had hardly budged.

So I think that maybe the motor is still good and I go buy some more oil and pour it in and try to start it and I get nothing so I tried turning the motor over by hand and it won't budge, I can't get a new motor from any of the companies that I had do stuff because I had so many different places do stuff and did a lot myself. I don't know when I am going to start pulling the motor apart but it looks like its a complete loss, I guess I am gonna have to save up and buy a JDM motor and transmission since I don't really want to spend the money on a type-s to keep my transmission.

I know it was a long story but I had to vent... I can't believe this happened, and I don't even know how its possible, the drain plug is still in and that is the only thing I can think of that would leak oil that quickly.

Re: RIP Lude :(

Oil cooler o-ring failure will cause an extremely rapid loss of oil. I drove about 300 yards before I noticed the smoke from the oil dripping on the exhaust manifold. It had leaked about a quart of oil that fast... in the winter... I know it's a bit late for the info, but I just thought it might help bring closure.

Sorry for the loss.

Weird, because I replaced that one myself and I was sure that it was in there good, must have F'd up somehow :/

Wish I had noticed some smoke or something so i could have prevented this :/ hopefully when I pull off my head it is okay so I can drop that one on the JDM motor if I want to because I had like $1,000 into that head lol

Re: RIP Lude :(

same exact thing happened to my first boosted H23, except it was my dumbass fault and the feed line popped off the block
dipstick was bone dry, blew the oil pump, but the motor still lasted 5K miles @ 6psi/230whp'ish, til the crank snapped in two

in order to loose that much oil that soon, something (seal/gasket/oil line) must have gave way, and even just cruising around the oil pressure is around 30psi, which is enough to just SHOOT the oil outta the engine.

time to build an engine, that's how i look at it

Haha that was my built engine, but yeah I am going to just order a JDM H22a and hope I can put my head on it...

Haha sorry I didn't give you your carnage, I think I would have rather ruined the body than my newly rebuilt motor but at least I am safe and everything.

Thats really unfortunate bro. Are you sure the parts were solid? As in, did you check them for cracks, dents, dings, and what have you? I know when my headlights came in from this guy, they looked completely legit, and then two weeks later, the seal broke(I think..Maybe something just isn't sealed right)...So If I were you, I'd check the individual parts that you just recently put on and see if any of those were the silent culprit. Good luck with everything, dude.

Haha that is literally like every seal man.

And I checked every seal before I put it on or before I gave it to the shops that put seals on, and they were all Honda OEM, no off brand companies.

So when did you finally finish the build and got it running before this happen? I didn't expect for it to end like this cause you put so much money into this motor. That head will fit for sure on a jdm block...

Dang man. Im sorry to hear what happened. Its good to see that your not all moping around and saying stuff like you wanna take a wrench or something and beat on your valve cover.....lol. When bad stuff happens for me I just always think to myself that it could be much worse. It normally helps me get through rough times.

did you happen to get the cam seal lock when you replaced all the seals? I think it was a $2 bracket that honda sells because they know the cam seals can come out.

Had the same thing happen to me on my first car. Blew 4 quarts of brand new amsoil. Turns out it was my oil filter gasket. Thought it was screwed on right, it wasnt. So sorry this happened to you.

Well it was running for maybe like 4-5 days before this happened and I know the head will fit on it I am just hoping that the head isn't warped or all effed up from not having any oil in it lol

Nope, but I am almost positive it was not a cam seal that came out.

Damn that hurts, sry to hear that. Is the bottom end still rebuildable. New rings and bearings are cheaper than i new motor. I know that feeling. I had a problem with the filter o ring as well. I think preludes are cursed. You'll get it running again!

I dont think the bottom end is rebuildable at this point, I am going to find out sooner or later when I get the head off of it.

I have a question though, I know if you buy an OBDI motor you can replace the distributor and the oil pump and then use it with my OBDII system, but what else would I need other than the OBDI wire harness and ecu to just turn my car into OBDI?

If I was you keegan I would just keep it obd-2 to save the misfire cels and to answer your question I think you just need to rewire the dizzy and get a jumper harness to save the trouble of using a Obd-1 harness. The jdm harness is a bit different being the car is a right hand drive car everything is opposite..

The thing is I am most likely going to do some type of build, either a N/A one with some of the parts I have left over and that are still good, or a turbo one now that I won't have to deal with ATTS and OBDI is much cheaper and easier to tune so that is my reason for going to OBDI.

Re: RIP Lude :(

if you don't live in an OBDII test state, you should go OBDI. You're right, tuning will be a lot easier

Re: RIP Lude :(

Okay so I just took off my head and stuff is looking better than I thought it would, the pistons and cylinder walls seem to be good from what I can see, but the crank wont rotate so I can only see what you can see in the pictures here, what do you think? I am thinking I just spun a bearing and I should be back up and running as soon as I get some new bearings in there...

BTW: I know that I burnt a **** ton of oil... hopefully it was just the headgasket and not the rings or valve seals lol...
