Kinda wierd.... Revs side goes crazy...

Hey!! Well i got a 99 prelude sh and everything is going great so far... Ive noticed that when im driving and i accelerate, the revolution tacometer goes kinda crazy after like 4-5 rmp??? Kinda sucks cause when your cruising on high speeds or racing, i cant really rely on my rpm.... Wich is REALLY important. Is this a relay problem or do i have to change the whole tacometer?

if you're racing.... Otherwise I would just listen to your car, and respond to her. If you're not already, you'll get used to the sound of the engine when it should be shifted for normal driving. If you're trying to get up and go of course, its going to be a little higher. General guidelines: when it sounds like a low pitched sound, then its probably not time to shift yet. On the other hand, when it starts going upwards to a higher pitched sound, then its time to shift. The higher you shift, the more power you're going to get, and the less gas mileage. Inversely, the lower you shift, the less power you're going to get, and the better gas mileage(to a point) that you're going to get. Of course, if you already knew all this, ignore me and my rants. As far as the gauge problem goes, I would see if you could get a shop to diagnose the problem for free, and if they won't give it to you, check around to other shops. Im sure you'll be able to find at least one that'll do it for free. If you can't, then obviously go with the cheapest(as long as the shop doesn't have some bad reputation).

Well I figure if he is taking his car past 5k then he may as well take it to the redline :)

But to the OP if you didn't know the numbers I threw out were for right around your redline :) and of course you will get better mpg's shifting at lower RPM's :)

B20A7 will become famous soon enough
Re: Kinda wierd.... Revs side goes crazy...

I don't know if this will help but on my third gen it was the igniter unit in the distributor that went bad. After replacement my tach was fine.

Slipping clutch could have this problem. Just a thought other than electrical. But from what you have stated it doesnt seem as if your car isnt performing.
