Re: cv boots ripped...

If its busted open and all leaked out like that i would say replace the whole shaft.

from what i have read you move the wheel assembly out of the way, yanke that shaft out, install new shaft, reassemble in reverse order.

Download the service manual for the prelude and you'll have more details

Re: cv boots ripped...

just replace the entire axle. its MUCH easier than regreasing and rebooting. plus they give you a core charge for your old axles

^ what he said. go to napa or some auto parts store and replace the whole axle. i picked mine up for around 70 bones and it has lifetime warranty. pretty easy to replace too.

Re: cv boots ripped...

I've done some youtubing.. Anf seems like whole axle might be easier too. No need to deal so much with grease and etc etc..

Something about tranny fluid. Do I need to replace them? I just did complete flush not too long ago.. Like 2 months?

Re: cv boots ripped...

yes your going to loose the tranny fluid once you take the axles out. if you can catch the fluid in a container and really feel like reusing it, go for it.

I just changed both axles on my 4th gen last week. It wasn't too bad to do, things were a little rusty so it took some patience.

Good luck getting all the grease off everything though. Mine ripped a couple months ago and I still get it on my every time I touch something under there.

Re: cv boots ripped...

Do you need to get a re-alignment after getting your axles replaced?

Re: cv boots ripped...

It is recommended that you have an alignment done after doing ANY front end steering/suspension work done.

Re: cv boots ripped...

well i've replaced 3 sets of axles and only on the passenger side do you need to do trany fluid, just replaced my driver side again this morning and it's a cake walk pop the lower ball joint unbolt your strut and pull the axle out of the rotor them out from under the car the last step is the hardest to get it to pop out from the mid shaft

Alignment isn't too bad. Maybe $50-70 at a tire shop...
