Just installed TWM Shift Bushings

Just installed the TWM Shift Bushings
TWM Performance Shifter Bushings

My thoughts:

This is a must buy and must have. It does exactly as it says, tightens up the shifting and gets rid of that mushy feeling. I also purchased the JTC Customs short shifter but I did not install it yet, wanted to get a feel of what this does first.

Install was a mixed bag. You don't jack up the car, work right from the passenger side, they are underneath the intake tube. Their are 2 bushings, one large one small. The large one moves the shifter forward and back, the smaller one side to side. The larger bushing was somewhat easy to get to and wasn't too bad, the smaller one was a serious pain. It is directly underneath several emission lines and even a radiator hose. Now, I'm lazy and it works against me since I didn't feel like taking any of the lines out (Some of them cant even be removed, like the thick electrical tube for the fuse box), so it took serious ninja skills to reach underneath it all and work. The hardest part is really getting the old bushing out, you cannot really force it out straight out, instead sticking a screw driver in and bending it to the side worked. They include a little bit of sand paper, this is to smooth the pin so the new bushing will slide on. In my experience the bushing fit perfectly and needed no sanding, HOWEVER, there is a lot of grime on the pin so I did end up sanding all the grime off so it would be smooth again. If the new bushing still will not slide on, use a hammer and screw driver to give it a few taps into place.

Overall I highly recommend it, if you want a better shift feel with zero cons, get em.

If you were wondering about the Shifter Base bushings that you can purchase as a combo, they are a separate install inside the car. They are the 4 bushings that are on your shift plate. They do not come with the JTC Customs Short Shifter.

They are metal instead of rubber (or whatever). I did not install these yet and plan to when I install the JTC short shifter. From what I have read these do not do a whole lot. From what I am guessing, it removes the flex from the shift plate moving slightly when you are putting pressure against the plate when shifting gears. I would guess it gives you just more of a connection with the transmission during shifting, with no flex. I would say purchase these as a combo like I did if you are also installing the short shifter, since you will be right there anyway.

I will post my thoughts on the JTC Customs Short Shifter next! Please feel free to ask any questions.

Re: Just installed TWM Shift Bushings

Anyone have input on these or the hybrid racing bushings? My car shifts fine but since the bushings are probably as old as the car (and it appears you can't buy just the bushings for the shifter cables) I was curious if there would be a positive noticeable difference.

The TWM are all metal which I heard can be harsh on and break cables on certain cars, and there's these hybrid racing one are metal and rubber (a hybrid).

Re: Just installed TWM Shift Bushings

I have the TWM bushings and it was an easy intall and cheap mod. I find 1-4 easier and crisper, 5th and reverse take some effort and if i'm a little rough on 5th I wont have reverse for a few days.

Cool. If you could do it over would you go for oem rubber or those hybrids I linked to? Did 5 + R are get harder to engage because of the new bushings?

Thought I'd bump this up since I've been looking into these. What do you mean you won't have reverse for a few days??

Re: Just installed TWM Shift Bushings

ok im going to share my input on this. i had my clutch changed and trans rebuilt, i installed these bushings after that and i have 0 issues with losing reverse or anything odd but i also never had issues with losing a gear before. if you don't have any issues with your transmission you will notice a difference.. completely different then stock bushings which you can bend in with your fingers, but the brass ones dont flex at all. i also have a jtc short shifter on the lowest settings and these made it even better.

Re: Just installed TWM Shift Bushings

I have no issues with my tranny, no grinds no hard to shift into reverse either.
Are these worth the 50 bucks? What do they exactly do? Smoother shifts?

Re: Just installed TWM Shift Bushings

Alright so I just installed the bushings I got today and I don't notice a difference at all. Going from side to side and into gears feels exactly the same? I wasn't able to use the paper like washer and thicker metal washer ontop of the meta bushing because it wouldn't fit is that normal? Pretty disapointed considering I spent 70 shipped and waited over a week to get these.
