Steering Rack

Has anyone ever had to replace their steering rack and pinion? Mine went out on me...while driving I was just wondering how expensive it is going to be to get it fixed? Is it worth attempting myself? I know the part alone is around $250-$300.

check the part out threads. there are plenty of donor ludes out there. Not sure if I'd attempt it myself, I'll search for a DIY for ya.

Re: Steering Rack

Hey little foot , in question the rack will take you about three hrs ,you need the car lifted high and stable ,disconnect the batt and the tie rods both sides, you will need some claw flare metric wrenches for the lines that are connected to the bottom of the rack ,10mm for the steering shaft bolt ,and 14mm socket for the two rack mounts ,make sure the rack is turn all the way to the right and it will fall out and the you can slide it out threw the right side rack hole .Hope this give you an idea i have done many of these in the past .PM If you need more info .

Re: Steering Rack

I don't mean to jack the thread, but i'm in need of a new rack as well and just have a few questions. I have a 4WS, would the front rack be diff from the a 2WS? Also, i got a quote for the rack and it will be $651. Is it worth it buying a new one?
