My cam seal by the dizzy is leaking. Gonna be changing it out today. From what I have read, its a common issue with the honda dohc motors.

Re: Oil leak.

How about instead of having us list the 50 something common leak areas associated with the h22 series motor, which is notorious for leaking like a seive; you pop your hood, jack up the car, whatever you gotta do, and LOOK for where it is coming from. Then we can tell you where it most likely is coming from.

because if you've read the post you'll realize the car is in houston and he's in NOLA. From the sound of it, he's attempting to get a head start on trouble shooting. dick.

Reading is for chumps

Ok, first question: What the hell is NOLA?

Second question: If the car is in Houston, and you are not, we could tell you every single place it COULD be leaking from, but without being there to look at it, there isn't much you can do about it. You'll sit there worrying about all these leaks you'll have to fix, when in reality it might just be the oil cooler o-ring or something small and inexpensive.

Now, to avoid ogs wrath by contributing something helpful to the thread, I'll provide an itemized list of common leak points. Not that it'll do you any good being nowhere near your car, but here you go:

Top right of engine:

1. Vtec solonoid
2. Distributor o-ring
3. Cam caps

Top left of engine:

1. Cam sprocket caps

General top of engine:

1. Valve cover,
2. spark plug tube seals (internal)
3. Valve cover bolt grommets

Block right:

2. Rear main seal

Block left

1. Front main seal
2. Balance shaft seal

Block rear:

1. Oil cooler o-ring
2. Oil filter

Block bottom:

1. Oil pan gasket
2. related oil pan bolts
3. drain plug

Those are just about all of the most common ones, but certainly not all. To troubleshoot an oil leak, there are several methods, and they all suck.

Start by doing a visual inspection and then prepping the block.

1. Look to find the general area or component oil is leaking from
2. Clean said oil leak, because oil tends to collect dirt and get blown around and it makes it hard to pinpoint the exact spot

Then, employ one of these methods to find it

1. Visual - After cleaning, run it and look at the general area of where it might be coming from. Wear safety glasses.

2. Flour - after cleaning, throw flour all over the general area of leak, then run the vehicle. The flour will stick to the oil and make it apparent where it is coming from. Also a reliable method for making love to fat chicks.

3. Ultraviolet dye - This involves buying dye. You put it into the oil, run the car for a few hours/days/weeks/whatever the directions on the can tell you, then using possibly a blacklight and yellow goggles (read the can) the dye in the oil will show you where its coming from.

Re: Oil leak.

Thank you, I was just trying to give my dad a head start and make his life a little easier considering you don't want to make a 300 and something mile road trip with an oil leak your unsure of, you know? I had to leave the car there for Christmas when I was visiting because I didn't have enough time to drive it back and be prepared for school since he insisted I stay longer, but thanks guys, I'll be sure to write that down and tell him what it could be.

Did you ever finish the 5 spd swap with the accord tranny?

Re: Oil leak.

I was considering posting that link at the end of my post, but decided against it because a) it would detract from the helpful awesomesauce that I unloaded upon this thread and b) because I was too lazy to go find the link.

But I like the way you think.

Re: Oil leak.

That works too, I'm thinking its a seal, simply because this never happened before and the car has ben sitting since christmas in a garage. I was thinking either they hard rotted, or just went bad from sitting there and lack of use, I'll try solenoid and around the dizzy first.

Negative. When I went to get the parts, the car had been sold or crushed. All I know is it wasn't there. But I got lucky, while I stack the parts, a buddy at a local shop gave me a rebuilt auto tranny until I get everything I need to go 5speed. For now anyway it feels like a new car.

But I changed the cam plug today. Yay! No more drippy drippy.

My dad thinks its coming from bottum end, he was starring it down and let it idle and nothing showed up and he saw it dripping underneith when he drove it around the corner to Wallgreens just to keep the battery charged.

your leak is most likely the oil cooler gasket if it's coming from down low.
