Clunking noise in front suspension

I hear this clunking noise in the front suspension when I go over speed bumps or bumps/pot holes in general. I thought it was my sway links so I replaced them at the front but it still occurs (I think my sway links were in need of a replacement anyways) so what could it be? Shocks?

Re: Clunking noise in front suspension

possibly ball joints. i take it your lowered?

a good way to find out, jack up the whole front end and support it with some jack stands and set the e-brake.. push up on the wheel to compress the suspension and see if you can mimic the noise. feel around ball joints and bushings for play you can often feel the clunk as opposed to hearing it.. some times it helps to have a friend push up on the other side at the same time to get more movement.

No I'm not lowered but I'll be lowering it 2.5 inch at the fornt by the end of this week which is why I was worried about that sound.

I'll definitely take a look at that or have my mechanic check out the ball joint. Thanks for the suggestion.

Re: Clunking noise in front suspension

Quick question if anyone knows. Is it usually the upper or lower ball joint that breaks.

blown shocks sound like that as well when you are hitting bumps or holes, they are basically bottoming out. You'll know if you go ahead and lower your car.

Re: Clunking noise in front suspension

I have the same problem too.. looks like i gotta check my ball joints, i know the driver side control arm one is DONE! but ima also do coilovers so that will eliminate the the problem of it being the shocks

Re: Clunking noise in front suspension

Only time there's the noise is when I go over a bump.
