Anybody done this?

Back when I had an old supra I saw a guy who had rewired his fog lights to turn on when you click on the running lights not just when you flip on your headlights. Was wondering if anyone had done it on their lude and how easy/difficult it is.

Re: Anybody done this?

Well your running lights go off when your low beams go on so what's the point? Do you mean he wired it to the low beams?

Generally, it's illegal to have more then 4 lights running at once (at least in Ontario) so how it's suppose to be wired is when your high beam goes on along with your low beams, your fog lights are suppose to turn off but the JDM foglights don't.

no no I mean when you click your lights up once. So your headlights aren't on at all but your dash lights and running brake lights are on.

Oh. Parking lights? Thought you ment daytime running lights. I guess you can do that but it'll be the same situation when your high beams go on but I have seen it wired like that. I keep my fogs on all the time anyways.

Re: Anybody done this?

I dont see why you'd call them parking lights you dont turn them on when parking or anything...I'm not sure you get it...i keep my fogs on all the time too. But they only actually turn on if you turn your low beams on. I'm talking about having the fogs turn on without any lights from the headlights. as far as I knew the setting I'm taking about is called running lights...at least thats what I call em and it makes sense

Re: Anybody done this?

pull the wire from the interior foglight harness from socket 2# i believe and hook it up to a switched 12v source. you could use the wire from the accessory socket. by setting it up this way the fogs will be able to turn on as soon as the ignition is turned

Re: Anybody done this?

Since you live in Canada you are probably talking about daytime running lights.. The lights that come on when you release the parking brake..

Do you have real jdm fogs or replicas? I have daytime running lights and I wired my fogs to come on whenever I flipped the switch.. It depends on which fuse you have it plugged into (interior fuse box)

Yes but my DRL's are the same bulbs as my highbeams, just not as bright. My running lights/parking lights are the small 7443 sized light bulb in the headlight. Not sure why they're called parking lights but when I autostart my car, those lights stay on. That's also the light that goes on when you turn it one click.

Because they are called park lights...

They are used to designate that you are parked on the side of the road. Headlights are designed not only to illuminate the road and indicate driving (running) which is why some countries require "Daytime RUNNING Lights"

You would simply unhook the relay trigger from the lowbeam circuit and hook it to a park light circuit.

I dont live in canada. And not a single light on my car comes on when I engage or disengage my e brake so the whole parking lights thing makes no sense

Re: Anybody done this?

The ebrake doesnt effect any lights except the one on your dash when it is engaged. Hes just talking about the dash lights and running lights in your headlights when you click your lights up once. When you click it twice it turns your actual headlights on. I wired my fogs to where they would turn on with just one click. I believe it was the second slot in your fuse box when wiring them in that allows that.

Re: Anybody done this?

You guys have your terminology wrong. Park lights are on all preludes and turn on with the first click. Running lights are on Canadian models and turn the low beams on 50% when the ignition is on and the e brake off

Re: Anybody done this?

Well I think my terminology is fine considering I'm not canadian and I dont associate the one click with parking so parking lights makes no sense. Anyways how do you wire it?

Re: Anybody done this?

I don't give 2 moldy bananas if it doesn't make sense to you that's what it is. It doesn't matter if you think a turbocharger is more "super" than a supercharger its still a turbocharger.

I already stated how to do it. Find your low beam input to the fog light switch. Cut it off a couple inches from the plug. Hook on a wire that will be fed by your park light circuit. Many places to get it both in and out side. Easiest place is behind the radio. Its technically the dash light illumination but will serve the same purpose.

I don't know how to spell it out any better. and I'm not drawing pictures. Try and open your mind to learning something rather than thinking your way is the only way.

Re: Anybody done this?

I guess I'll call it Rice instead of JDM now. It's more super then a turbocharger anyways. :)

There is a difference between DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS since this is the high beam, like he said, at 50% power (for Canadian models only). They run during the day = daytime running lights. Parking lights/"running lights" (all models) are activated on the click up or when your parked but autostarted so that it shows the drivers that you are parked.
