vtec too loud????

hey guys. recently i had that whole idle issue that almost every member here had. for me it was the idle control valve. basically on a cold engine it would jump from 1.5-2.5 n up and down. like i pushed gas and let go, pushed and let go lol. i had to take it to a shop and they jst adjusted the valve behind the intake manifold, i gues it was a spring like adjustment, from what he explained. he basically took the cover off with 2 screws (this is all behind the IM) and behind it was the valve. after that it jst purred. on cold engine start it sat a 7-800 rpm without a jump. but the problem i have now is this. it seems like when i hit vtec it jst screams. it doesnt sound too normal... maybe cuz i have proper idle maybe its the way it suppposed to be. but maybe not. sounds like its jst tearing up in there like metal banging metal loudly. i checked my oil levels and they were fine. i even added a quart but no change. as soon as it hits 5.2 it gets louder and louder and 7 its jst roaring and screaming. i can hardly explain it. it may sound awesome to u guys but im concerned it may lead to a future disaster. what do you guys think?

Re: vtec too loud????

here a few videos. one is the way it used to be before i fixed the idle and one after. from what i see in the second video after it was fixed it seems to rise slower. (the rpm) and video was done on cell phone so audio kinda sucks but especially in 3rd gear in second video u can hear it getting LOUD but in real life its even louder and the same way in 2nd at high rpms.
BEFORE FIX (Happy Days)

AFTER FIX (Sad Days)

Maybe its just me, maybe im just paranoid. Maybe its the way its supposed to be. So let ne know guys! Thanks!

Re: vtec too loud????

i'd be happier with louder vtec, my thoughts are if everything is working fine except for the idling, then your mechanic adjusted it back to stock setting which is around 800 rpm. It probably is getting the right air mixture.

Re: vtec too loud????

Yeah, it sounds like something is rattling pretty hard.

What's your exhaust/header/intake setup? - is everything secured?/ any exhaust leaks?

miles on car?

have you had a valve adjustment?

have you changed the oil and checked for any metal?

Re: vtec too loud????

If your at 180k, you should get your valves adjusted just to be on the safe side, you'd be surprised on how off they get after a few years of driving it.

Shouldn't be a problem bro. My h22 has 45,000 miles and it sounds the exact same. You should be good.

Sounds normal to me... :/

Although after listening to it once more, it sounds a bit rough...I would worry too much though. Like the others said I would think a valve adjustment might smooth it out a bit. ither than that though it doesnt sound super severe to me...

Sounds fine to me, my buddies vtec sounded just like that. And I'm sure mine will too, right after I do my swap, coming up.

Sounds kinda normal to me man. Are you giving it full throttle tho? Cos if so, thats definitely sluggish. Mine is auto too and I know it pulls harder than that.

Ive only got an intake. Idk. Maybe it just seemed slow in the vid. I could definitely be wrong and your car not be sluggish at all. Blahhh . Lol

The intake and exhaust valves beneath the valve cover.

It's highly suggested that you take it to a reputable mechanic (or honda dealership) to get the adjustment done.

Re: vtec too loud????

Not sure about a Dealership - But I paid a honda mechanic $100 to do a valve adjustment along with my EGR port cleaning. So you're looking at under that amount.

I hope you're kidding lol

To save you the embarrassment of even mentioning Vtec fluid to any shop - whom will consider anyone that asks a complete idiot and take advantage of you -

There's no such thing.
