coolant/overflow tank boiling?

Searched, can't find anything. Just got this car yesterday and the oil temp gauge flies all the way to the top and I pull over and see my coolant tank spewing and I hear a boiling sound. What's up with that? :/
Radiator fan doesn't spin at all. Both of them spin when the a/c is in, but not when a/c is off. I also noticed that when the car would get hot it'd effect my engine's performance.

Re: coolant tank boiling?

I could be wrong but it sounds like the head gasket blew. That would deffinately boil out the coolant

Thanks for the input bud. I'm towing it to my mechanic tomorrow and he's gonna check it out. As well as a much needed timing belt and water pump change. I'll get him to check the head gasket.

Re: coolant tank boiling?

if its blowing bubbles into the coolant overflow it is without a doubt a head gasket .. sorry for the bad news man ...

Re: coolant tank boiling?

its definitly the head gasket. i just worked on a 2006 bmw 325 ci that had a head gasket leaking and the pressure that built up in the reservoir actually made the reservoir explode. depending on your mechanic it might actually be cheaper just to replace the engine, and if so and your looking for performance, you might as well do an engine swap upgrade

Bout 2800. Not THAT serious of a problem. It'll be fixed. My mechanic is awesome.
Trying to be optimistic.

The engine makes no noise whatsoever, checked the oil and no water bubbles in it or anything. It COULD just be a bad sensor that doesn't tell the fan to spin. But if it really is the gasket it'll be fixed. I'm sure it hasn't done any real damage yet.
I could be wrong but whatever it is, I can have it fixed. I'm just hoping for the best.

Re: coolant tank boiling?

Sounds like it's either your gasket and/or thermostat!!!

Bc if it's boiling then your chances are that your thermostat is stuck and it's puching back and causing it to spew.

You might also wanna have your coolant sensor checked out jus incase it might have crapped out on you.

I've had both incidents happen to me but at diff times.

Most likely both. Thanks for the post. I'll make sure my mechanic thoroughly checks it out.

Thanks a lot man. Much appreciated. She needs our prayers. lol ..I got to drive her for a few hours before she started overheating. I seriously felt mad good.. I thought my 4th gen was nice...jeeeez. All I had to do was sit in the driver's seat for 5 seconds before I fell in love. :D Kinda blows that Vtec kicks in, on mine anyway, at about 5200RPM. I love the sound ..god damn.

Re: coolant tank boiling?

GOOD NEWS DUDES. A radiator hose was crimped..causing my fan not to spin, thus causing the overflow tank to boil..no head gasket problem.. the mechanic checked it and it was fine. He replaced the hose and everything is good to go! :D:D:D:D

Now he's going to do the timing belt/water pump tomorrow and oil change, as well as a tune-up.
God damn I'm glad it wasn't something more serious.

this is why we stress maintenance over mods to our new members. if you would have continued driving that car you would have popped the head gasket for sure. Good call on having her checked out.

you can stick with the auto tensioner as the new ones have been improved from the original version and are much less prone to failure. Manual ones seldom ever fail though.
auto tensioner=h22, manual tensioner=h23. fyi

Aight thanks for the info bud. :D Yeah I know when to stop driving a car lol.
I had planned on having maintenance done even before all that happened but it's a good thing it did so I could get that fixed also. :D
I'm glad I have a mechanic who pays attention. I know other dudes would have been like, "Shheeeit brah, don't SEE nothin wrong with it, NOW GO DRIVE! Derp."
