Icon5 Accord trans in a 5th gen

As some of you already know Im in the process of swapping in a five speed. Due to low funds and the difficulty of finding a 5 speed prelude trans out here, I have decided to go with the 01 accord 5 speed. If anyone has any experience with this swap please get in touch with me. I really want to know things like wire colors, same as prelude or do I need to know something? Do I use the accord's cv shafts or should i buy new ones? Trans mount, Will mine work if i drill it out, will the accords work for me or am I just screwed? Lastly, is their anything you think i need to be aware of?

Re: Accord trans in a 5th gen

Everything on that tranny should work out find it looks the same as a base 5th Gen prelude trans, axles and everything will work as long as you don't have a SH prelude.. The accord trannys are ok but I would sure hate the longer gears compared to the 5th Gen trannys...

Thats good to hear. Ill make sure to take it all from the accord. As for the gearing, it may be taller than the prelude 5 speed but i did the gearing calculator. Im actually going to be shorter than the 4 speed auto1-4th and with a taller final gear(4th compared to 5th). So for me its still an improvement.

Re: Accord trans in a 5th gen

Nah its a 2.3L accord 2 door.

I finally re-found the gearing for the auto. I was wrong about the 5th being taller, but its still a massive improvement.

Auto
1st 2.528
2nd 1.427
3rd .976
4th .653
final 4.785

accord 5 speed

1st 3.307
2nd 1.857
3rd 1.269
4th .966
5th .787
final 4.266

Re: Accord trans in a 5th gen

If that is what you have to do then do it but you will be doing a lot of work to not get the benefit of the typical 5 speed swap. Your gearing is quite different. As a decimal it may be small. .5 doesnt seem large, in relation to a gearing stand point your refenence is 3-4 making it a difference of greater than 10% and as rpm increases your difference becomes more appearant. Also, the tranny that comes in it is optimized for the torque band of the H22 which is very high in the rev range. If you have the power to overcome your drivetrain short comings then it can actually be a positive swap. However, for your circumstance, i dony think you will be pleased wih the results. Never donr a 5 speed swap so i dont know how much of the work is transferable but i would expect you will be doing another swap.

Re: Accord trans in a 5th gen

Well if you look at the link i posted above, add in the gearing and look at the differences it should be better than what I have. Gearing for the h22 or not, its an improvement.

Id go for the prelude trans but finding it around me is impossible. And Im only paying $120 for everything i need from the accord. And I mean everything.

Re: Accord trans in a 5th gen

Try the pick a part in west wego, my friend with a 92 hatch said he was there trying to find parts for his car and saw 3 5th gens. Thats what I plan to do when I get my auto in another two weeks. I might have to ask you to help me considering I've never done anything of this nature before.

Re: Accord trans in a 5th gen

Im very conscious of gearing and reduction.... but many times things work on the chalk board but when you put theory into application the results can vary.

Re: Accord trans in a 5th gen

I've had two Accords with that transmission and it's perfectly fine for daily driving, but you'll fall out of VTEC every shift if you ever try to race it :P

Well seeing as my auto does that anyway, its still an improvement. Besides I'm not really interested in drag racing.

I went to Pull a Part, they only have 1 prelude and its a 90 auto.
