Icon8 Putting on new lug nut stud on a 99 prelude! HELP!

Ive been trying to put in a new stud for the front lug nut of my wheel. Ive been asking around and most people said it shouldve just popped right out. that was not the case, someone said i need a hub pully. Anyone have a solution?

Re: Putting on new lug nut stud on a 99 prelude! HELP!

What you need to do is grab a hammer and a round pick and hammer it. It won't clear the back because of the cooling plate and you'll have to also put the stud side ways because of the hub just becareful not to strip or damage the studs thread. Now to pop it back into place is easy. Just get a few washers and put in on the studd then grab the nut and turn it till the stud is flush.

Re: Putting on new lug nut stud on a 99 prelude! HELP!

to get out, hammer it till it flys off. like said before, (re)move cooling plate. to get it back in, get a grinder, grind one side flat where the lip is. that makes all the differance trying to get it in

Re: Putting on new lug nut stud on a 99 prelude! HELP!

First off there is no cooling plate, it is a brake dust shield. In order to get them out you have to grind off the the corner head of the stud so it clears the spindle. Then hammer it out. To put the new ones in you have to basically do the same thing for clearance, then tighten them on as hard as possible to make sure the stud went all the way through.

Re: Putting on new lug nut stud on a 99 prelude! HELP!

I replaced wheel studs. I removed the hub by leaving the disc attached to the hub (so I dodnt need a hub puller), removing the hub nut and giving it a good yank. To get the stud out I put a long socket behind the stud I wanted to remove, then hammered the stud untill it popped out the back of the hub. Do the reverse to get the new stud back in.

Re: Putting on new lug nut stud on a 99 prelude! HELP!

i just did my rears a month ago. you dont have to shave anything or cut this or remove the dust shield. mine popped right out with no problem at all. there was no clearance issue, i would be glad to make a video for you if needed. now the fronts are the ones you might want to get the hub pressed out and you might have the clearance issue. also when hammering out the ols studs be ready to replace the wheel bearing in the near future.

The rears are not the same as the front. Grinding the head of of the stud prevents you from wasting time and money removing the whole knuckle assembly, having the hubs pressed out, then replacing the wheel bearings.

Re: Putting on new lug nut stud on a 99 prelude! HELP!

Well hammering in the new stud doesnt work that brake dust shield prevent the stud from going in and strips it. Im having a hard time popping out the hub, its not moving at all, there is nothing holding it or bolted to it, somehow i need to get this to pop out a little so it can clear the back.

Some keep telling me to get that pully, makes it easier i guess?

Re: Putting on new lug nut stud on a 99 prelude! HELP!

the studs will only pop out in 1 place so you will have to turn the hub. and remember when you install the new ones put them in place and put a nut thats a bit bigger ( or any thing as a spacer ) then screw on your lug nut until it is flush using a spacer will ensure it pulls threw all the way and you dont wreck your lug

You have to turn the hub so the stud is at the open area (where the caliper and mount bolt up to). The hub will not come out, it has to be pressed out by a shop.
