Engine swap h22a4 to JDM h22a

I ordered a JDM H22A and am going to be swapping mine out of my 2001 base prelude with it. The guy i ordered it from said the oil pump and crank sensor form my engine need to be put on the JDM. I also ordered a timing belt kit to put on before the install. According to him the engine is OBD II. My question is are there any compatibility issues i will encounter during the swap? will the harness match identically and all CEL lights stay off? What should I look for before the swap? Also, should I purchase a new oil pump or should mine with 90k miles be ok? are there any write ups on this already bc I couldnt find any?n Thanks.

Re: Engine swap h22a4 to JDM h22a

I just recently did a H23a vtec on which I had to change the oil pump and crank sensor from my H22a4 for it to run. You also have to change the distributor and maybe the IM for all sensors to be plugged in on the stock harness then again you may not have to change the IM but I do know the H23 was different... The CEL lights should stay off if all of your sensors are matched to you harness. I used my old 204k oil pump and it still runs like a champ but thats totally up to you on the trust of your oil pump...

yes it's a must, otherwise if you tried to wire you're going to get misfire codes. Oil pump, sensors, and you may want to consider a manual tensioner conversion.

the manual tensioners is so much easier to install and they don't fail also it gives your timing belt that extra tightness. the auto tensioner can fail on you and they require a special tool to install again...

what about leaving the auto tensioner on the JDM engine is that advisable? or is it very common for them to fail?

i left my auto tensioner on my f20b only because i couldnt fit the belt on the manual tensioner. it was too tight. We'll see how long it will last.

Re: Engine swap h22a4 to JDM h22a

I never had one that failed on me but the manual tensioner is worth the swap. I used one from a F22 but most people get theirs from a H23a1 prelude.. I would have kept the auto tensioner but they are a pain in the ass to put back on...

That's tight man, i want to do the same to my car. I have a 98 h22a4 base 5 speed, so how much was the h22a and where did you purchase it, if you don't mind me asking. Hopefully everything goes well with your swapping, let us know after you install it.

Re: Engine swap h22a4 to JDM h22a

i got it from naganousa it was 1250 shipped. i should be getting it tomorrow. i got a call from the shipping company and its in town. i am going to start the swap a week from friday. that will be April 29th. well at least start removing my engine that night and have a good start on that saturday morning. in the meantime, i am going to get the new timing belt water pump and tensioner on the new engine. I went with the auto tensioner because of the direct fit and i figure that a new one should last until its time for the timing belt job again. I went with the OEM from online. was 89.00 after shipping. This will be my first swap and have been reading the forums and the manual i downloaded everyday to get mentally prepared for the swap. I will start a thread on the swap with pics when it gets here tomorrow. and go throught the timing belt process and through the swap if you guys think it will be beneficial to the forum that is if there is not a thread like that already made. I guess I will start tomorrow with the thread with pics of the new engine. i will let you know man.

was the timing belt adjuster pulley smaller on the F22 than the H23's? If so I may end up getting the f22 pulley and do the manual swap the next time i change my timing belt.
