How to cram 2x 12" subs AND use trunk passthrough?

hey everyone.

i'm in the market for a gen 5 lude, but i don't want to replace my existing stereo (2 old school PPI piston 12" and the matched amp (i forget the model, but it is the LOOOONG one)

Any creative ways people have stuffed a pair of 12s and a huge amp in the back while still allowing a space in the passthrough for stuff?

(I'm a photographer and often have to carry seamless paper in my car (its basically a 9' pole. Fits perfectly into my Probe with the seats down, sitting on top of the sub box)) I've got the amp sitting opposite the subs (basically on the backside of the taillights facing forward)

am I just going to have to deal with the fact that the prelude has no trunk? haha.

take out the spare tire and make a custom MDF enclosure housing the subs

or you can make custom fiberglass enclosures, one on each side of the trunk where it widens out a bit for the subs. then just find some place to throw the amp

nice!. hmm.. i'm really wary about not having a spare though. I live in pittsburgh and well... i've blown out tires parallel parking. They have these wonderful metal strips on the curbs. They embed angle-iron in the curb! (i don't think they do it anymore, but the iron curbs are everywhere, and there's no where to park.!!)

the side pocket idea is awesome too though. do you think a 12 would have a decent amount of airspace back there?

I saw this site (i'm too much of a noob here to post links apparently) where the guy put the amps inside the trunk lid. but I don't know how I feel about my huge ass PPI amp hanging from the trunk lid. Add a few gas struts to hold it up and it could be OK. Hmmm. I don't like to advertise what's inside. get your **** ganked a few times and your stereo installations go from wild to low-key REAL fast.

One idea that I had last night was to make a modified V shaped box and have the subs pointing up, in the V, take out the 6x9s (I have MB Quart coaxial components for the front (again, oldschool, but you can't buy them like that anymore) and was never a fan of rear speakers anyway and let the subs fire up.

then, if I left enough of a gap in the V, i could still put long stuff through.

Hmm... I wish someone out here had a car that I could look at. I don't know if the thing has enough trunk for me.

try making custom fiberglass enclosures that way you can mold it into whichever way you think would work out best for you

is it something I should try to do myself? (I'm quite mechanically inclined, but I"ve never worked with fiberglass before)

is there a quickie FAQ about laying fiberglass that i can look at?
