Need help with wiring issues?

OK I am FINALLY done with the 5 speed swap on my 5th gen (well for the most part) What I am having problems with is the car not starting. I have no power inside the car as far as dash warning lights, clock, radio, windows, locks, etc. I am guessing my problem is directly related to this ... but as to why I do not have power has me baffled It cranks like mad when you turn the key but wont start so obviously getting no fuel either. Could it be immobilizer related? The only thing that works are my headlights, brake lights, and my dome light ... anybody else run into this problem after doing their 5 speed swap?

Thanks

Re: Need help with wiring issues?

When you install a clutch - there's usually a sensor on it that allows you to start the car once you engage the clutch.

Since you were once an auto - i doubt this is the issue unless they tried to wire that sensor in thinking it's needed with the swap.

Best bet is search up 5spd swap on this site - and find BustR He would be the most help with this.

check for your ground cables. from battery to frame, frame to motor.

Re: Need help with wiring issues?

I did not hook up the clutch safety switch Wing. I have a remote start on the car and wanted to keep it so the only wires I screwed with were the back up lights and I just used the original 10 pin harness for the trans minus all the other worthless wires off the auto. So only ended up keeping 3 wires off that harness. Was trying to keep the splices to a minimum.

Thought it might have something to do with the keyless entry/remote start since I had the battery disconnected for so long but I have to find the remote to try and arm/disarm it but I'm guessing its wired into the immobilizer some how? It's a crappy unit made by Autopage if I remember right but it was in the car when I bought so I didn't screw with it.

I have been through countless forums on here and other Prelude sites about the issue but have yet to see this problem in any of them So I'm throughly stumped right now. My ground wires should be good, I cleaned them up before I reattached them...wouldn't think I would have headlights and be able to crank the motor with a bad ground but I could be wrong on that base ... will have to double check them.

Re: Need help with wiring issues?

you are probably right about the grounds but half of all my wiring problems have been grounds. when you put your key in and turn to the acc position, does the green key light up in the gauges, does it flash at all when you are trying to start it or if you leave the key in the on position after cranking??

Re: Need help with wiring issues?

No there is nothing on the dash no green key or any of the other warning lights that usually do their little light dance when you first turn the key on That's why I thought it is probably related to the immobilizer somehow...from what I understand anyways from all the posts that I have read about the immobilizer. That's where I am confused though because as I understand it my problems are from a couple of different systems. I have nothing working except my headlights, brake lights and my dome light...well the headlight on dinger thing works and so does the key in ignition beep beep thing works too. Windows, locks, turn signals, blower motor, radio, digi clock on the dash, and dash warning lights, are not working and the immobilizer should not affect all that I wouldn't think. It will crank like mad though when you turn the key.

Re: Need help with wiring issues?

For that many circuits to not be working you have some big time back tracking to do. Grounding issues are definitely a possibility. Take a multi meter (not a test light.....) and turn on your ignition. Test ALL fuses for power. Granted some my not have juice until the feature is turned on (headlights) check for equal voltage on both sides of the fuse. Particularly under the hood.

Re: Need help with wiring issues?

Ya I spent the better part of this afternoon checking fuses and banging my head against the wall. Pretty much gave up and called it a night...

I am not sure how things went so bad considering I did not disconnect any harnesses except auto trans ones under the hood. I did have to unhook the ECU to mod it for now until I can swing a 5 speed ECU and I just disconnected the TCM since it's pretty much worthless now. Tried plugging the TCM back in but still did the same thing.

I am/was leaning towards a ground issue (both grounds (body and trans) I disconnected were cleaned before I reconnected them) but I don't think it's one of those but not sure what else ground wise under the hood I should check.

The remote start/keyless entry system is a major suspect right now as well. I did disconnect the brain in the process intending to ditch it for a newer more name brand set up but didn't cut any wires for it because I was unsure where they all hooked into at the time. It's an Autopage unit and upon tearing my house apart my girl told me "um that remote your looking for is in the trash" Apparently I tossed it a couple months back because I'm an idiot. Anyways, I plugged the brain back into the loop but to no avail. I'm guessing it has to be wired into the immobilizer though.

There is one relay I did disconnect that I am unsure of what it is for though. It has Denso printed on the side of it and was under the console next to the old auto shifter. I didn't hack the wires just unplugged the relay but tried plugging that back in too and nothing changed.

Soooo ya .... guess I'm spending my Saturday bonding some more with my multimeter....

Re: Need help with wiring issues?

You forgot to ground the light blue wire at the nuetral/safety switch relay. If you look up from under your dash you will see a four wire relay with the following wires.....
Two white with red stripe
black
Small light blue....this wire you tap into and send to ground.
Hope this helps.

Re: Need help with wiring issues?

as a result of something that happened to me, there is a spot for a fuse under the dash in the main fuse panel. if you look at the fuse case where it indicates what each fuse is for and what rating, it is blank. first thought would be that no fuse is necessary in that spot. make sure there is a 15 in that spot.

That would make perfect sense! I am heading back over to my buddies garage here in a few hours and will let you know if this works or should I say I will let you know WHEN it works!
